Hello Everyone,
I just finished an In-Car GPS Project with voice Navigation and tested in Ayala Alabang. It is a standard Din Device That I have installed in my honda city. I would like solicit your inputs if there is enough interest for this product here in the philippines plus a cellpone-based GPS.

duke9631, honest opinion lang ... not every car has an extra DIN slot, which makes your market smaller. And between a DIN-installation versus a transferable/portable unit, I'd choose the latter. Iwas-nakaw, and I can use it on another car without much trouble. Or even while walking.
Now if it's cellphone-based, you'll have a bigger potential market. GPS receivers are getting cheaper ... software/map combo na lang. And with the Nokia N95, you can forget about the receiver because it has one built-in.

salamat sa mga comments nyo.
Straight six, salamat sa opinion. Yup I agree with you. The DIN-size device just serves as a tech-proof of concept for usage scenarios para sa mga pinoy... Not yet the prouct. it should be tablet size na puedeng ilipat sa mga sasakyan.
Handheld and in-car have different usage scenarios also. Im interested to know your comments on products such as Mapking and Guide Me.
Have you tried those products? What are things that can be improved on, from those products.
Are there UI issues, perfomance issues. Or just simple non-updated maps?
Hope to hear your comments!
Regards,
Duke
PS. Yup, N95 is cool!!

Sorry, I haven't tried Mapking nor Guide Me yet. I don't think they're available in the market where I am (UK), where the ones I've tried were the low-end makes from Garmin, TomTom, Navman and Sony ... so I'll just limit my opinion on updated maps.
An updated map is not that important to me (to an extent) as long as the system has a re-routing feature. Missing a turn because the road turned out to be newly-designated as one-way shouldn't be a problem ... nor using a new road not yet on the map database. As soon as you hit a familiar road the re-routing function should kick in and you're back on track. Unless you're trying to navigate to a road (end destination) not yet on your map.

haha.. sorry for assuming that you are here.
My project aims to be the "localized version" of those you'v tried. Rerouting feature can easily be incorporated. Thanks for the comments.
It happens to me also when my software tells me turn in a place where it is blocked by local traffic enforcers..
Im working on a nokia cellphone-based-project also. A phone with GPS or GPS hardware is useless if it they dont have localized maps (and software if needed).
If you have more insights please do share them. You can also post in my blog if you wish.

Mapapahaba nang husto ito, if you want my opinion on satnav systems, hehe. And I'm not really up to date with those available today. But don't think that I'm not impressed with what your group has accomplished. If you can put in more features and make it work on Nokia's, you have a winner.
Foremost on my mind is its routing function. Like most systems today, it has to have a choice between taking the quickest or shortest route. As you know, the quickest route may mean a farther route using wider roads ... but on times like rush hours, it's the opposite. Some systems give you control of preference over highways and city streets, and the avoidance of toll roads although toll roads can be easily bypassed with rerouting.
Auto-rerouting is a must for me, for the reasons I gave in an earlier post. And in the absence of a system in the Philippines like TMC (Traffic Message Channel) - one of its features is to send data to satnav systems, showing traffic hotspots and marking it - I'll be needing a way to manually mark on the map an "avoid-area" due to heavy traffic or other reasons like, someone I owe money from lives on that street.
And the end point of navigation ... it'll be nice to navigate from door to door. But the inclusion of house numbers and road preference as I understand depends heavily on the map database, so I hope you're using a very good map

Hey Straight Six,
Thank you very much for your useful comments. We have been brainstorming on the features you mentioned. Thanks for confirming the need.
Thanks also for posting in my blog. Salamat!
