April 16th, 2013 03:16 AM #16try using your phone as a gps on a road trip minimum 2 hours drive. ubos agad baterya nyan and iinit pa ang phone nyo kung sakali na may car charger kayo.
i've been using gps systems since 2001 and in my opinion, better pa rin ang dedicated gps.
it's nice to have an iphone or an android na jack of all trades pero the trade off is all of these functions (phone, camera, gps, internet browser, etc) only has one source of power. i dont want to be in a situation na i need to use the phone to call someone in an emergency pero lowbatt dahil sa nakababad sa gps. ok ang phone gps sa panandaliang gamit pero di advisable na nakababad ng ilang oras.
ang maganda lang ngayon is we have other options. ako i use garmin, then may built in gps yung auto ko (avt pero sobrang panget and hindi user-friendly), tapos i have my tablet pa with different apps (waze, google map, osmand, mmda app). i sometimes use them all just for fun, ang ingay sa loob ng sasakyan. lahat nagsasalita hehehe

April 16th, 2013 03:24 AM #17I use Sygic, kaya lang di siya free. Mayroong voice navigation siya, turn by turn. Sinasabi niya rin kung saan lane ka dapat pumuwesto ahead of time. Gumagana siya ng offline mode rin, no need for Internet access.
Kapag long drive I connect the phone to my cigarette lighter charger adapter kaya no problem sa battery. 5.5 inch rin yung screen size ng phone ko kaya no problem in viewing the map.

a phone is a phone, gps is gps.
though almost lahat ng mga bagong phone ngayon ay mga mga "extra" features, still phone pa din ang main purpose nito. gps (e.g. garmin) naman ay of course isa lang ang purpose kaya kung baga e forte niya ito.

Binatone Carrera? is that your GPS you wanted to activate for Philippine use? What Philippine map will it use?
Remember your GPS is only as good as the map it uses. The most reliable maps we have for Philippine road today is the roadguide contributors map available only for Garmin and Papago GPS system.
If the map in your phone is much better than your stand alone GPS you are better off using the phone GPS. Or if the cost of activation is more than the cheapest Garmin GPS with Phil map, then just buy a Garmin GPS.

Both the hardware and software of a dedicated GPS unit have been designed for optimum performance for that particular function - GPS and map direction.
Of course technology can change that in a jiffy. But, as we speak now, the dedicated GPS is definitely a better option.
