original question was bakit parang merong "nasunog" (not a techinical term, hehe) after the installation of plug and play HIDs inside an H4 halogen headlamps. ano ba nag cause neto? I think dun nagsimula, tama ba? correct me if I am wrong.

naku baka maging mahaba eto. anyway we really don't know kasi hindi naman natin nakita yung headlight sa actual, picture lang and marami pwedeng mag cause neto. Based on experience pwede yung hid system or even a mfg defect on the headlight, especially kung aftermarket. To the thread starter, ilan months naba naka kabit yung HID?

it might be the hid syst: some cheap HID kits or what we can call plug and play HIDs have spotty quality built into them. Very normal for this cheap hids to malfunction in less than a year. One concern they have and I think it might be related to this is the fact that they dont give out the claimed wattage. Kung 35w yung bulb/ballasts combo lumaabas more than that. minsan mas mababa naman. Another thing is with the UV coating they receive. Many of this cheap bulbs dont even have it or sobrang pangit na quality of UV coating which can attack plastics kasi the light source will produce UV.

My guess is that it is a combination of hid system and the headlamps itself. Some headlamps will not be affected by HIDS or even high wattage halogen lamps while others will get burnt easily. Ano ba yung headlamp na naka post ni thread starter coz I might be able to comment on that.

Along the way, na discuss yung glare produced by HIDs. Ok it wil produce glare I am sure but different headlamps will produce different amounts of glare with HIDs on them. Some of the bad ones, Gen1 Fortuner, Jazz GD and GE, Innova, etc. Some headlamps will produce less but it will still produce glare because the 3x more light generated by the HID has to go somewhere. Some people will lower the height of the cutoff to reduce the glare but this defeats the purpose of having better lighting than can illuminate further down the road.

Here are some pictures I made way back 2009 comparing stock halogen bulbs and PNP hids.

Upgrading Your Lighting System | HID Retrofit

The picture will speak for itself.

You can also see here glare produced by a Honda Civic EG with PNP hids

eto front view and you can see light scattering above the cutoff

this is an output of an HID headlamp with hid reflectors, RHD Japanese, just sharing, took this picture while experimenting, just to show meron mga HIDs on reflector type housing built for HIDs like Forester, Civic 2.0 and Altis 2.0

Civic headlight with PNP hids and you can see the glare above the cutoff:

Halogen headlights are designed for halogen bulbs. From output to positioning of the electrodes, etc, Iba talaga. You cannot maximize the output of an HID bulb if it's installed on a halogen housing. As mentioned, the glare varies of you install pnp hids.

I am not sure if it's road legal though kasi baka export lang yun and also I am sure nothing comes out of the U.S or European Union coz bawal talaga yung pnp hids on halogen housing dun. Saw this 'Philips' kit rin sa Singapore website but the fact remains wala naman sa atin nakapag try kung walang glare if it's installed to halogen housing or even the performance of this kits. Technically you can lessen the upper glare above the cutoff but nothing compared to the output of HID projectors.

I started retrofitting because I want better lighting system for my old hatch without glaring other motorist. I also try to be a responsible motorist and can you imagine if we all drive responsibly? ang ganda siguro ng Manila. Walang counterflow, alam natin ibig sabihin ng X sa intersection (hindi ibig sabihin nun meron buried treasure ok? and you are free to camp out sa gitna, keep it open, pag walang exit, dont enter, hehe), we use add ons/upgrades to our car responsibly, i.e we dont affect negatively the rights of others as motorists and courteous at marunong magbigay lahat eh di ang ganda ng Pilipinas.

So there you go, napuyat ako coz of this, hehe. Can you imagine someone texted me kasi meron daw spirited discussion sa tsikot? bihira yun ha mabuhay kayo lahat especially to all responsible Filipino motorists!
    Very well said, sir.
