Toyota versus Nissan (which is which?)

actually pareho lang super touring sa super saloon. the super touring just has an air dam and body kit.

i was comparing it to the sentra FE which is power nothing.

sorry for my ignorance (its my first car kasi with no prior experience sa maintenance), but what is an air dam and body kit? Meron bang abs and/or air bags ang super touring?? thanks

air dam and body kit -- mga borloloy yan on the outside. basically pieces of plastic molding hanging off the body to make it look more sporty.

the super touring is basically a cosmetically spiffed-up (with body kit, air dam, and big spoiler on the trunk) version of the super saloon. but mechanically and electrically they are identical. so yes you do get an airbag and ABS.

note: pag nag deploy ang airbag, sobrang gastos itong palitan. pati yung ABS, merong separate ABS computer from the main engine computer, pag namatay yun... madugong repair na naman.

pero mahal nga yung sentra FE na 250k. kung 180k yun oks na oks bilhin. pero 250k is way too much.

Talagang mahal ang FE, tapos ayaw pang magtawad nung may-ari kahit "one centavo" lower ayaw daw nya..Kaya ayoko, pero maganda n sana eh,alaga naman siguro ung car mayaman kasi may ari..

By the way, ung super touring 1996 model, so this one, u supposed do have abs and air brakes?

While we think na ung FE is way below its normal price..how about yung super touring, ok lang ba ung benta sa akin na 168 thou pesos assuming na totoo ang mileage nya as compared to super saloon A/t na inaalok sa akin at 155 thousand after tawad.. both are fresh i should say though ung super saloon is already 120thou km odometer while super touring is only 77Thou km odo..thanks

AFAIK, ABS/SRS (airbag) ang Super Touring. B14 ang chassis code ng model na iyan. Nagkaron na kami ng B14 (2001 model) which is only cosmetically different (though walang ABS yung sa amin). Hindi kami binigyan ng problema. Uncle ko na ang may ari ngayon. Solid pa din.

i'm willing to bet merong hidden na mga sira yan. but then wala namang 10-year old car na walang hidden sira eh! nagtitiis ako dito sa 1993 car ko (first-time buyer din ako 3 years ago kaya marami akong nalustay na pera sa repairs).

hanap ka nalang kaya ng mazda 323 1.3L na GLX? carb engine yun, mas konti ang pwedeng masira kasi hindi siya loaded...

i have to tell you, 3 years ago i was where you are now. nasilawan ako sa mga borloloy nung mazda 626. sarap kasi nung remote power mirrors eh hahaha. pero ngayon ang mahal mahal i-maintain. sobrang mahal nung parts and maraming pwedeng masira.

if it's your first car, lalo na if you're on a budget and wala ka pang alam about maintenance (it will end up being far more expensive to maintain than you ever dreamed of..) best is to stick with a simple car. one which has as minimal electrical stuff as possible. that means, hindi power windows, hindi power mirrors, pero dapat may power steering na.

so that would be a 1993-94 corolla XE, or a sentra FE, or a mazda 323 1.3L.

Exactly, meron sana akong gusto na toyota corolla 1994 XL but powerless as in power less..set-up na xa, mugs and everything is on board..kaso hinid power steering..un ang ayaw ng mga friends ko..

Then i scan through the pages of tsikot.com and after many posts and replies and seeing through threads, i found out that sentras are the best bang for my hard earned money withouth compromising the comfort, durability of the car..

Well, it al depends on the mechanic siguro..

Id have to ask for the hidden defects of the car though..thanks sir..

oh by the way u mean mura ang presyo sa akin ng super touring? It was originally priced at 175K tinatawaran ko nga ng 160K ayaw talagang ibigay..ganda pa naman nung may -ari..eheheh

baka wala pang oil change yan! baka nag-overheat na yan at kailangan ng top overhaul! :P

best of look. pero if i were you tingin ka na rin sa mga 1996-97 mazda 323 1.3 GLX (yung round body). mga ganun na din yung presyo, baka mas mababa pa. pareho lang ang cost of maintaining a mazda or a nissan (marami akong friends with B14 nissans). yung 626 ubod ng mahal ng parts, pero yung 323 ok lang.

as i said, you might want to check out the mazda 323 as well. yung round body (familia) na 1996-97 goes from 150k to 190k. all power na din yun, pero walang ABS or airbag (unless GLXI model).

it looks decent naman (to me) but then i'm biased. very active din ang local community.

pero yung GLX nga na 1.3L dapat hanapin mo. power steering lang para mas kaunti pwedeng masira. although in all honesty wala pang nasira dito sa 626 ko na electrical. pero na rewire ko na (DIY) yung fuel pump, hahaha.

sa mga old cars na yan, ang often masira are radiator (overheat!) brakes, suspension.
