January 7th, 2016 11:39 AM #53Kung Altis G, City VX at Civic S, sa Altis na ako.
City VX: Overpriced. Oo spacious legroom pero shoulder room ay masikip. Hindi makakasandal ang tatlo sa likod. Pang dalawang tao lang. Kung City E ok na ako dun.
Civic: A new one is coming.
Altis: Way better-looking than the City (IMHO). More spacious and a class higher.

January 7th, 2016 07:04 PM #55It has a more value proposition than the other cars in its class, but only by a little. Specs are good, car itself is good, but Nissan Philippines hasn't done enough to warrant the still relatively high price. My primary concerns if I were a potential buyer would be:
Bad/magulo yung dealership network (before the reorganization), a long history of uncompetitive cars and the fear that there won't be any banawe/spare parts down the line (Well totoo naman, a banawe shop owner won't stock parts for a brand and model of car that doesn't sell).
A 35K SRP difference is not enough to lure me to plunk down 900+K for a Sylphy 1.6 CVT from the standard choices of an Altis 1.6 G CVT or a Civic 1.8S AT
People who have that kind of money will not want to penny pinch in return for possible headaches.Last edited by mda; January 7th, 2016 at 07:06 PM.

The difference is actually more like 70k now, with the 915k Sylphy 1.6 sellings as low as 850k while the 949k Altis G can probably be had for 920k.
In fact you can get a Sylphy 1.8 for the price of an Altis G and that's a really big difference specwise.
The usual argument is that the Sylphy is doomed to fail simply because it carries Nissan's bad rep. But the Navara sells well, and that's a Nissan too. It seems that it's more of a model-related bad rep than for the entire brand - the old Navara and Frontier were good trucks, but the Sentra 200 and N16 Sentra were awful.
Again, this leads me to think, why didn't they just name it the Exalta? That was their most successful Sentra iteration, and it doesn't sound awful. I think that alone could boost sales quite a bit, but of course you can't just change a car's name midway through its life cycle.

January 7th, 2016 10:42 PM #57TBH, if I didn't frequent the forums and car buyer ako, I would just look at the SRP difference and cross it out of my list kaagad. They should just slash the SRP on the spot. That will get buyers interested kesa mataas yung SRP tapos malaki rin discount.
I think the Corolla and Civic have just built a better 'image' than the Sentra/Sylphy, the same way how the Galant was once the king of D-Class cars but eventually got overtaken everwhere (like all other Mitsus). Upside nalang ni Mitsubishi is that the Montero and Mirage are still selling well though.

January 8th, 2016 05:08 AM #58My opinion on the sylphy. Is talo sya sa looks. Granted subjective yun, pero matagal ng nahuhuli ang sentra sa area na yan compared sa corolla and civic. Doesnt mean its bad though, again those who dont bother to look closer will miss what it has to offer sa interior.
Kamusta pala engine performance compared sa rivals?

I'm sure that you're happy with your purchase. After all, you truly believe that the Sylphy is great value for money with its cheap price and bucketloads of features. How much was the discount they gave you for your 1.8V?
Then again, from sales figures, it's apparent that for every compact car buyer who thinks the Sylphy is a gem, there are 25 other people who are thinking along the lines of, "The Sylphy doesn't look as stunning as the newer compacts, has poor resale value, will not have enough parts availability outside the casa, Nissan is awful..." and so on.
These concerns are actually valid. Looks are subjective, but I haven't really seen anyone blown away by the aesthetics of the Sylphy. Looks ok, but not really head-turning.
Resale value will almost certainly be lower than an Altis, and perhaps even the Mazda 3.
Parts availability will also be a concern in the long run, as with any car that doesn't sell well. For a car that has sold less than 500 units in an entire year, I doubt that auto shops will carry parts outside of the usual filters and replaceables. You'll have no choice but to buy at the dealership, which is always at a premium.
Nissan service has greatly improved with the takeover of NPI, but good luck convincing people that the decade of mismangement from Yulon is over.
