basti, i stand corrected
. i always thought it was the other way around. when we were about to buy our galant vr, we went to a nissan dealership to look at the cefiro which was just nwely introduced back then. the sales agent gave me a manual for nissan sales agents (supposedly for internal use only) wherein the altima, cefiro, galant vr, and the cefiro were extensively compared. sayang naiwala ko na, ang daming info dun.

niky,
only the 98+ 626 (GF body) has the FS-DE of the Lynx RS. the pre-98 626 has the FS-E (not distributorless).
as for the US spec 118hp of the FS-E (pre-98) you may be right there, the figure might be derated. the local FS-E has no catalytic converter and (might) have no EGR valve (the JDM FS-ZE has no EGR). both of these "features" reduce power substantially, as much as 10hp from the cat alone i believe.

Kung m/t performance lang pinaguusapan, mga early 7g VRs would win hands down. Iwan lahat the cars mentioned, pati yung GTi (dunno about the VR4 though).
For looks though... GTi me, absolutely classic.

mitsubishi had this engine in the early 90's called the 6A10, a 1.6L V6 (the smallest production V6 in the world). in tuned but NA form it could put out 400+ hp.
the 7G galant V6 (and maybe the 8G?) uses the "big brother" of this engine, the 6A12 (2.0L V6).

the 6A12 also has a MIVEC version used in JDM Viento... stock it has 200hp.
see, that MIVEC is Mitsu's counterpart for Honda's famed VTEC, even the SiR's 1.6L 160hp has a Mitsu counterpart the 4G92MIVEC (in the Cyborg 167hp), so sad that while Honda's claiming out loud that their engines in stock form can easily dish out 100hp/liter...Mitsu's doing nothing to counter that even if they really have the weapons for a head to head competition.

Oonga... only the 98+ 626s had the distributorless system, but all 95' and up were still called FSDE instead of E.
Hmmmm.... Toyota black top? I once saw a 626 converted to ITBs with parts from the black-top. They somehow managed to mate the runners of the quad throttle 4AGE 20V to the FSDE... nice work... reportedly took months to perfect.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
