*sirs, GTi, ericson21, vinj: Thank you very much po sa replies and i really appreciate it. I think i'm gonna go with the Escape once i have the money on hand. Si misis na lang ang hinihingan ko ng approval kasi she worked with Isuzu before and basic knowledge nya sa sasakyan is Masakit sa ulo ang mga sasakyan na hindi Toyota, Honda & Isuzu...hehehe!

Last favor po, if my money could only reach 300k+ what kind of Escape should i look for and should be considered like, milage, class/type of engine (disregarding the sunroof). Same din po if i could get 400k+, what kind of Escape should i get (pero w/ sunroof).

Again, maraming maraming salamat po. And to our fellow tsikoteers.

About the sun roof, the rubber seals tend to crack due to the hot climate here in Manila leading to leaks and the rubbers seals are very hard to find and expensive to purchase and install...
So think about it if you really want a sun roof here, and especially summer is fast approaching the heat would easily get into the car since the glass of the sunroof would just conduct the heat directly into the interior and with the lack of insulation just some vinyl/fabric cover it could compromise interior comfort.

And may I suggest you look at the MAZDA TRIBUTE, aesthetic wise I prefer this over an escape... and since this is just a escape with MAZDA badges it would fit your preference perfectly, 2004-2006 models can go below Php 400,000

*vinj - many thanks for your reply sir. i really appreciate it.

*sm2by - message well noted sir with many thanks. i really appreciate your inputs. Now that's 1 thing i should really consider. Siguro i-erase ko na yung sunroof. Im sure kahit 5yo pa lang baby ko she would understand . I will check the Mazada Tribute.

What are the pros and cons with the Mazda Tributes po mga sirs?

eto lang masasbi ko sa Ford Escape, comfortable- driver and passenger, very cool ang aircon, matibay, parts are readily available recto and banawe,
elegante ang dating, fuel consumption hindi naman kasi from dasmarinas to tondo manila kasama na matinding traffic sa imus at bacoor, 500 pesos lang balikan na.

Sir last year I also considered buying this car based on my research during that time ang pinakamurang variant na pede mo makuha is yung mga 3.0l na V6 which is medyo malakas sa gas just try to strech your budget to 350k kasi yun ang range na medyo ok na klase makukuha mo. Another option is the Mazda tribute as suggested by others here you can get a 2006 model for 350k to 400k which is mura kaso puro V6 ang makina. The thing I liked about the escape/tribute is pang harabas ang dating kahit malubak at medyo baha ok lang gamitin. Kung decided ka na talaga dito tiyaga lang ng konti sa paghahanap wag mo madaliin kasi madami naman available sa market na 2nd hand nito. Good luck TS.

The 3.0L v6 does around 5++ to a liter in city driving i think. I asked my friend who has one (3.0L v6 converted to LPG) and he does 6km/L in the gas mode and 4.5km/L in LPG (they're still fine tuning the LPG AFAIK). If youre going for the Escape, get this and be happy. You'll have more power, the sunroof of your daughter, and the FC isn't too far off from the smaller engines it seems

Yes, the Tribute is similar to the Escape 3.0 (in 2-wheel drive guise) and i think it does have a sunroof (can anyone confirm this?).

On top of your budget, you also have set aside another 20K to 30K for maintenance and repairs; it is a second hand and you want to do a general service at the least to make sure its running well.

Wow! I salute you sir! Napakamahaling tatay! Yung 2.0XLT 4x4 namin is a very comfortable and durable car. But performance is erratic due to the transmission's odd gear ratios. It doesn't seem to know when to shift and when to hold a gear. For instance you'd be crawling slow at around 2000rpm, but with just a wee bit of a slightly heavier press of the throttle, it'll immediately downshift and be screaming at 4000-5000rpm. And since the car behaves that way, and also due to the heavy weight of the car, gas mileage is severely compromised.

And yes! I ought to be whacked for forgetting the Mazda Tribute. Its basically a rebadged Ford Escape with the 157hp 2.3L engine from the very start and available in 4x2 guise only. Oh and good news! This one has the power moonroof option for all variants! Only thing I have against it is the looks... The Escape simply looks a lot better. The interior is almost the same though I have a feeling of it looking like a converted RHD Escape. due to the shape of the side air vents, which are on the other side of the car in the Escape.

As for the woes regarding the sunroof seals. I believe that won't be happening any time soon. You'd still have around, say ten years more before you should even start worrying about such things. Though it'll be best if you park in a covered garage or at least invest in a car cover.
