October 19th, 2023 07:39 PM #11About 15 years ago I met some Filipino mechanics in Japan who were on contract from an importer in Cebu. They stayed about a year converting used Honda CRVs and kei-vans from RHD to LHD. the CRVs in particular looked no different from LHD stock after conversion.
years ago Ramon Bautista featured how a Cebu kei-van importer/seller converts a RHD to LHD. Its no longer a cut and weld affair for the steering column but now done with belts and gears.

October 19th, 2023 07:47 PM #12i can imagine.
a number of modern car frames are designed for both left- and right-hand drive. their frames already have the necessary features, for both left and right hand drive. the bends and holes are all there.
it is only afterward, that they are assembled as left-or right-hand drive.
manufacturer's conversion kits are available, at a price, of course, to convert these cars, without having to cut or weld the frames and weaken them.
a number of converters, however, prefer the un-official conversion method, as it is considerably cheaper, albeit (probably) not as reliable nor factory-functional.

October 20th, 2023 05:42 PM #13Subaru's rally cars are all converted from RHD to LHD.
The base car kasi is a STI Spec-C which comes from Japan in RHD, then Prodrive, and later Vermont Sports Car do the build along with the conversion to LHD.
So for a decades now the best LHD Impreza have actually been RHD conversions.
Check out this timelapse of a VSC Rally Car build, you can clearly see at the start it's RHD then at the end it's LHD na.
