February 19th, 2019 08:22 PM #276All of them are nice cars, and in manual form, should still be able to easily keep up with today's 1.6 engines.
I'd go for the Sentra due to low resale value giving you newer car for your money. But if you want tipid, better to forego the STA for manual variants.

February 20th, 2019 08:09 AM #277Thanks for the quick response GTi
Actually the Nissan Exalta STA was my first choice because of its in and out aesthetic but of course that is not the only factor to check when buying a car. Some of my relative discourage me on choosing nissan cars. "sirain daw" is that true? i have seen Exalta Sta 2001 A/T in fb's marketplace for 130k. it looks good and properly maintained but never check it out in personal. Given that the unit is in good condition and properly maintained, can it still last for about 3-5yrs without any major issue? i will be using it as my daily service going to work about 30kms per day or 1-2hrs on the road that includes heavy traffic. and of course pang out of the province. Kakayanin niya kaya?
Sorry for the long message.

Good day everyone! First time car buyer here. Just wanna ask and clarify things. Sobrang dami kasing questions sa ulo ko about choosing and buying a car. Currently, hindi pa din ako marunong magdrive, but planning to enroll in a driving school. I wanna get a 2nd hand car for our daily work - home travel. Also, konting travel kasama si misis sa iba't ibang province.
Hatchback type car ang focus ko para hindi mahirap i-park, and mas madali idrive since magiging first time car owner ako. My budget is around 200~300kphp. These are my choices.
- Suzuki Swift
- Mitsubishi Mirage GLS
- Kia Picanto
- Suzuki Celerio
- Hyundai Eon
Question:
1. Okay lang ba na kumuha ng 10 year old car? May friend ako na nagrefer sakin ng selling ng Suzuki Swift 2009 Model A/T with around 70k km mileage, for 270~280k.
2. What things to consider when buying a 2nd hand car? Usually daily work and some travel lang naman talaga ang purpose ko.
3. Is it okay to get a newer model (Mitsubishi Mirage 2013~2015gls variant around 300k vs Suzuki Swift 2009 Model around 270k) compare sa older but higher end model car? Is the price difference worth it?
4. In getting 2nd hand car, what do I need to consider in their maintenance?
5. Manual or Automatic? Which is better for first time driver? Some says mahirap daw imaintain ang automatic, and mahirap ayusin specially pag bigla kang nasiraan while driving..
Wala talaga akong idea, but I really want to get a car.Thank you guys!

February 20th, 2019 09:49 AM #280i'd love to entertain your worries, but it would take a very long discussion over several dinners.
heh heh.
there are many articles in the internet, regarding your questions, po. peruse them in your spare time. "how to buy a used car".. "travails of a used car buyer"... "caveats in used car buying".. "how buying a used car changed my life".. or something like that.
several tips:
1. never rush. the next car you inspect, might just turn out to "better than the one that got away".
2. compute your budget. be honest, and do not be optimistic.
3. gas costs about 50 bucks a liter. the typical small car will give you 8 km/li in the traffick-y metro.
4. maintenance issues. oil change is 3K, twice a year. repair costs... unpredictable.
5. tolls and parking costs. DO YOU HAVE A PARKING SPACE? things commuters never had to think about.
to give you an example.
i have a 2014 wigo, purchased new.
it costs me 5K a month in fuel. 60,000 pesos a year.
periodic maintenance at the casa costs me 6K a year.
mall parking is 50 pesos per entrance.
the first sagi is always the most painful. you will want to have it repaired asap.
good luck, po.
