DIY Car Paint Job

Hello mga kuya.

Sa tinagal ng panahon e dumami na ang battle scars (crack, gasgas, konting bangga, "bubbles", etc) sa pintura ng sasakyan ko. may nagpapakita na yung primer (green at light brown). ako nagtanong sa mga shop at nasa approx 30 k ang kanilang estimate.

Ngayon, sa kadahilanan gusto kong matutunan ng pagppipinta ng sasakyan ay iniisip sa halagang nabanggit ng mga shop e makakapaginvest nako sa basic painting tools (air compressor+accessories) plus yung mga kemikal na kelangan.

Gusto ko lang malaman ang mga specific steps sa pagrepaint ng car. pati na rin yung mga tools, chemicals and techniques na ginagamit. Obviously, ang aking tanong ay para sa mga eksperto dito sa pagpipinta ng sasakyan pero welcome din yung obserbasyon ng iba.

Isa pa e may konting body repair din akong balak gawin sa fenders ng sasakyan ko. Meron naman akong welding machine, etc. Gusto ko matutunan ang mga ito. Ayoko kasi maging dependent sa mga shops. DIY ang aking kinahihiligan ngayon.

Ang aking nakuhang steps pa lang mula sa aking kaibigan ay ang sumusunod:

Full Repaint Job
1. Strip down to bare metal
2. Clean, apply lacquer thinner
3. Apply primer
4. Apply Body filler sa uneven spots
5. I-sand ang mga uneven spots (ano grit # ba kelangan gamitin?)
6. Apply primer again
7. Apply color of choice (ipapatimpla ko syempre sa paint stores syempre)
- nasa 4 liters ang kelangan ko daw para sa pickup ko plus 2 cans of thinner
- almost same viscosity with water daw dapat yung paint mixture
8. Apply another coat (option)
- ilang coats ba dapat ng color of choice???
9. Apply Top coat (pang glossy surface)

"Hilamos" (Wash-over ba tawag?) Method:
1. Sand the panel to be painted (without the need to strip to metal)
- ano grit # ng sand paper ba kelangan gamitin?
- kelangan pa ba applyan ng lacquer thinner?
2. Apply primer (same color ng color of choice)
3. Apply the color of choice
4. Apply topcoat

Tama po ba ang mga ito? Pafill-in the blanks na lang kung anuman ang dapat at hindi nararapat.

as per my friend painter, sa preparation tumatagal (body filler application, sanding, etc). madali na lang daw yung actual painting

Still your final choice on this one pero if possible iwasan mo mag strip to metal kung wala ka pa oven and a working area na ma ensure mo na controlled ang moisture... kadalasan but not always ang nag strip to metal mas mabilis magkaroon ulit ng rust.

Iba pa rin kasi talaga yung factory painted na primer kasi may process sila na dipped yung buong body frame and other parts

yung paint nya ngayon ay hindi na yung original factory paint...iirc sa sabi nung dating owner neto ay brown ito.

actually, i'm in the process of preparing the tools and equipemtn na...1/4 or 1/2 air compressor, 2 spray guns (1 for primer, 1 for base coat), air hoses, regulators, water separators, safety PPEs like respirators and filters, mosquito nets (to prevent insects diving into the wet paint), ventilator/exhaust fans. mga lumang tarp sa bahay.

may mga katanungan din ako dun sa default painting thread kaya lang wala pang sumasagot na bihasa. imo, after researching, i'll fall back to your friend the painter. i didn't have someone as a mentor. there are lots of forums that extensively discuss this topic though and youtube instructionals.

what he told you about body shop work is true. always do a guide coat til block sanding is perfect. else all those layers and job may result in a wavy panel. long sanding block. body work is a big, separate job.

400 wet gamit ko sa primer. base coat 800 wet before a re base. clear i don't ever want to sand it except for finishing. basta perpekin dapat ang buga ng clear sa practice board. di ko ito ginawa sa last attempt ko kaya't lahat ng pasakit at problema sa aking project ay dahil dyan sa pagkatigas tigas na anzahl clearcoat. kaya dapat muling ibalik ang ibayong ingat tulad sa unang sabak.

actually meron akong dalawang vintage (MBM) bikes na pwede kong gawing guinea pigs at siguro mga scrap na galvanized sheets sa bahay for more experimentation.

sabi ng kaibigan kong pintor, magiging bihasa din daw ako....pagkatapos ng mga pagkakamali. hehe....willing naman akong matuto at willing din akong itake ang risks (siguro). tutal luma na rin naman na pickup ko. kung may bibili pa e di ayos. kung wala interesadong bumili e madami pako matututunan sa kanya sa pagbutingting.

maari mo bang ilathala sakin yung step by step na ginawa mo including the paints, sandpapers, other tools na ginamit?....don't worry di naman kita sisisihin pag nagkamali ako

balak ko din mag diy paint ng sasakyan ko. hehe. san kaya nakakabili ng water separator and pressure gauge?

nagtaka ako kung bakit f75 ang pinili mo pero naglakad ako sa hardware area sa soler, alonzo, etc, wala nga akong nakitang magandang spraygun. sa ibang lugar siguro mahahanap.

paalala lang, hindi biro ang makalanghap ng pintura. pag naka n95 ka at nalanghap mo pa rin ang bango ng pintura, isip na ng ibang paraan. also be mindful of small animals around, they will probably be poisoned and die. sometimes paralysis creeps very agonizingly slow. in my case 2 month old puppies. even though i'm not sure if that was the cause, or an epidemic of distemper, it broke my heart and i still am guilty.

since you're a competent diyer, fashion a fresh air source. to give you an idea, i am planning on using those foil tubings, then adapt a pipe to a face mask. then add positive pressure.
