I went around Cavite last week, it seems halos patay na assemblers talaga. may natira na lang na isa, nag-a-assemble ng Wrangler type/hardtop model. Gumagawa din ng AUV pero sobrang matumal daw. nag-fabricate nalang ng replacement parts ng jeepney at owner type.
I want to help them, at least thru advocacy, marketing. gamitin ko institution namin. I'd ask them if they know that there is a move to revive the local auto and autoparts industry. Di sila updated. I did mentioned the PHUV, di rin nila alam.
As I told you sir, to revive the owner-type jeeps fabricators, they must be given new information about the trends today. kulang na kulang sa updates.
Yung may ari, nagre-reklamo sa mga Subic vehicles kaya di mabili OTJ. Sabi ko naka-ban na yan. peo ayaw maniwala e. kasi naman sir bakit nga ba sandamukal yang SUVic dito sa amin. At ang masakit, e yung mga nagbebenta pa ay mga OTJ fabricators din.

OTJ's can do godlike ofroading provided that you tune 'em. atleast put on some roll cage and increase suspension height plus offroad tires.

Medyo mahapdi itong sasabihin ko, pero nabanggit mo na rin lang, sasabihin ko na rin.
Una, mahina nga sa pag-unawa sa industriya ang mga nag-aasembol - hindi lamang sa Cavite, kundi sa lahat ng prubinsiya. Nag-umpisa silang "siyano" at yung mga nagpursigeng mag-aral at gawing seryosong propesyon ang pag-aasembol ang mga natitira. Yung iba, nalugi na o nagsara. (Yung unang talyer na kinonsulta ko para ipagawa si Chok ay diyan mismo sa Dasmarinas - nagsara na rin, kasi yung may-ari ay madalas daw kasi matalo sa Casino Filipino.)
Ikalawa, mahina ang loob. Walang 'fighting spirit'. Na hindi nila ipinaglaban ang OTJ atbp vs SUVic, ibig sabihin ay wala silang pride sa kanilang gawa. At dapat lang siguro, kasi laos na laos na rin yung mga OTJ at Wrangler. Wala naman silang maipalit. Imbes na tumunganga, ayun, sumuko na lang sa kalaban. Parang hindi Kabitenyo.
Bakit nga ba wala silang maipalit sa OTJ at Wrangler? Kasi -
Ikatlo, mahina sa disenyo. Kaya ang sigaw ko tuwina:

No long-range corporate vision. Mababa ang layunin, mababa ang kaligayahan, maikli ang pangarap. How many among them are truly dedicated to automaking? For them, it's tedious work (a necessary evil), not a PASSION.
Pero meron pang ika-lima na dapat mong bigyan ng karagdagang pagsasaalang-alang:
Ikalima - sobrang tigas ng ulo. Kahit hikayatin mo, ayaw mangarap ng ibang disenyong makapanggigising sa natutulog na consumers. They're just plain stubborn, won't listen, and prefer to wallow in their lack of vision. They refuse to heed the call to innovate, maybe because that's beyond their comfort zone. Actually, ganun din ang nangyari sa Sarao.
Am I being too hard on them? O, eto naman: Many of them are victims of the overarching culture of corruption that has brought a series of unfortunate events upon the industry. Totoo rin naman that the business environment leads to frustration, disillusionment, despair, resulting from -
Ika-anim - kulang sa puhunan.
IMHO, you in the academe are in the best position to prime the recovery of the industry. At the core of the solution is EDUCATION and TRAINING. Maraming butas ang edukasyon nila -- hindi sapat para sa malalim at praktikal na pag-unawa sa negosyo at industrya. That way we can RAISE THEIR CONCEPT OF DEVELOPMENT. Kasi mababaw nga ang idea nila of what it means to be developed.
Kailangan ng Filipino academic base na magpapadami ng automotive designers. No base, no design community. No design community, no deal.
