Depende sa design ng AC system. Nowadays on climate controlled cars (digital AC), compressor is always engaged whenever you turn on the AC button. Several temp sensors monitors cabin temp and adjusts the blower fan depending on the temp setting. Once the cabin reaches the desired temp, fan speed is reduced. If you want to save a bit of fuel, just use the fan mode (blower on, compressor off).
The simpler aircon design which is till found in cars like the Vios uses conventional cycle on and off depending on the temp setting. Just like and old fridge. This design is more economical, although less refined.
