    The Santana is very tempting...

    Sayang wala pang AT version.

I find it also strange na on paper, the Vios' 1.3 engine produces more HP than the Santana's 1.4L engine...

The VW 1.4L NA produces more torque which is more important. Rarely can you max out the HP of such engines unless you rev it to 6k rpm most of the time. Most Pinoy pa na kinikilabotan na kapag lumalampas ng 3k rpm yung rev nila.

The VW Santana looks like an interesting competitor to the Vios. Just wonder if it has at least the same German build quality as the more popular models like the Golf and Jetta (although I did read that the Jetta was made in Mexico).

Manufacturers follow strict quality control even if its factories are placed on different parts of the world. Except for the Passat and Golf GTi which are built in Germany, the rest are made in Mexico (Jetta and Golf GTS), Poland (Golf Caddie), and some other countries (Polo).

The Tiguan used to be built in Germany. Is it now built somewhere else?

There are different models of the Tiguan. Maybe the one made in China offered more tax breaks thus better local pricing can be offered.

Yes, I agree... For sure kahit saan gawa yung car, maayos pa din...

Although iba pa din Metallurgy ng Japan/Germany hence the reason kung bakit madami kang makikitang parallel imports if you visit other ASEAN countries. (even if mas mura ang cars made in neighboring countries)

Hi sir, ask ko lang where available to get VW parts besides sa casa?

We're looking at getting the Tiguan 280 TSI, but concerned lang about the availability of its parts here sa atin.

Would greatly appreciate any info you may have to share. Thank you!

my recommendation is, don't VW na lang, if you intend to save money by purchasing parts outside the casa.
parts will probably be difficult to source, and more expensive to boot.
the company is a relative newcomer to the local car industry. i do not know how aggressive it will be, when it comes to maintenance and after-sales.

i used to drive an "orphan car".
    "never again."

    my opinion only.
