Manila will ban next week tricycles and pedicabs from 46 main streets and the bridges of Ayala, Quezon, MacArthur and Jones, to ease vehicular traffic.
Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and Vice Mayor Isko Moreno met with drivers and operators discuss the road policy, following the truck regulation in the capital.
“All three-wheeled transports, tricycles, pedicabs and Kuliglig (an farm tractor adapted for transpot) will no longer be allowed to use the 46 roads in the city,” Estrada said during the dialogue held at the City Hall.
“Maiiwasan pa natin ang disgrasya sa lansangan (We will prevent accidents as well.”
Isko, Manila’s traffic czar, said tricycles and pedicabs operators are required to register and apply for a new franchise.
“The city council will approve the new routes and the additional loading and unloading areas and will start issuing franchises,” he said.
According to plan, the ban will be enforced on Roxas Boulevard, Pablo Ocampo (from Taft Avenue to Roxas Boulevard), Pablo Ocampo (from Taft to Osmeña Highway), MH del Pilar (from Kalaw to Pablo Ocampo), Mabini (from Kalaw to Pablo Ocampo), Osmeña Highway, Quirino Avenue, Taft Avenue, Kalaw, UN Avenue; San Marcelino (from Quirino Avenue to Romualdez Street), Pedro Gil (from Quirino to Panaderos), Guazon Avenue, Quirino Avenue Extension, Ayala Boulevard, Padre Faura, Padre Burgos Avenue, Finance Road, Lawton, Natividad Lopez (Arroceros); Antonio Villegas, Ayala Bridge, Quezon Bridge, McArthur Bridge, Jones Bridge, P. Do they have plans of getting rid of jeepneys as well? What's the ideal scenario anyway? Just buses?

^And hope when Isko and Erap are no longer at the city hall, Manila will keep that policy.

+1 din sa ordinance na yan.
pero ang dami pa talaga nilang bigyan ng concern sa Manila.
like, towing vehicles sa residential areas?

May 29th, 2014 04:08 PM #7AFAIK nauna na yung buses, regulated na yung buses na dumadaan sa manila. even at 11PM hinuhuli sila ng MPD pag nagsakay sa di dapat loading/unloading stops. i've heard erap's been giving 5-digit bonuses to MPD peeps - rank and file. how much and how often i don't know. but i see it as a good way para ganahan yung mga pulis magtrabaho.
ideal scenario would be jeepneys only on major roads, with the three-wheeled vehicles limited to sidestreets. buses on a limited number of stops.

tsk tsk tsk!!
