Here is a breath of fresh air for us looking for environmentally friendly ride.

The Alternative Fuel Vehicles Incentives Act (SB 2856) aims to encourage use of electric or hybrid cars in the country.

- Reduce the price of electric or hybrid cars by eliminating/lowering most taxes imposed on their manufacture (excise taxes and VAT).
- Encourage customers to buy them by the following:
- Libreng registration
- Walang 'coding' use your car all day of the week
- Free parking - this law mandates building owners to provide free parking to eco-friendly cars

tagal na neto. ewan ko kung umuusad sa senate ito. pero malaking bagay yung pag-alis ng duties sa pagbaba ng presyo.
for example, pagpasok pa lang ng Prius, 40% agad ang duty. meron pang 12%VAT at 10% ad valorem tax. hahaha dami talaga.

Hangga"t mas malaki ang pakinabang ng gobyerno sa mga higanteng petroleum company malabo na maapruban yan lalo sa mga panahon ngayon.

Pero maganda yung panukala para sa kalikasan!

Why? The Senate has already approved the bill.

And we also have the E-trike project.

It's not the oil companies that are the biggest hurdle to adopting EVs. It's the fact that they're so fricking expensive.

That hasn't changed much, and still won't change much. The cheapest electric-only vehicle that meets crash and highway safety standards on the market is the Nissan Leaf, which costs three times as much as the Versa it's based on.

Add local taxes to the price of the Leaf and it would cost 2.5 million pesos.

A tax exemption brings it down to 1.5 million pesos. I doubt oil companies will be losing sleep over millions of Filipinos paying 1.5m for a car that's smaller than the Almera.

at yung hindi agad nakikita rito eh yung environmental impacts ng pagmanufacture at pagrecycle ng hybrid cars....they may or may not be as polluting as combustion engines...

plus kelangan din smooth ang daan dito sa pinas para minimal vibration at tatagal ang batteries.

Pero ang prius ng Toyota mahal pa rin, mas tipid pa kung bibili ka ng montero na GLS. Yung savings sa cost magagamit mo for about 5yrs sa fuel kaysa sa mga hybrid.

This applies to hybrid also - the Honda CR-Z is now selling at about US$20k outside of the Philippines. Import this with the tax privilege of SB 2856 and we might get a friendlier price. It should benefit the Leaf, MiEV, etc.

Yes, but sadly, it is being blocked by the dept. of Finance.There is only a very small window for them to go to bicam and have it ratified. If we miss that window in June, then it starts from scratch. But there is still a chance of getting this passed. I have set up an online petition. According to Ralph Recto and Secretary Petilla, if there are enough signatures (at least 10,000) we can definitely get it prioritised. Let's not wait till it's too late.
