    From top gear philippines...

This guy won a brand-new Innova for owning the oldest locally manufactured Toyota vehicle in the Philippines. Story here: Toyota Motor PH finds oldest locally manufactured unit - News | TopGear.com.ph

While Ford Group Philippines is currently getting all the attention for announcing yesterday that it will close down its manufacturing facility in Santa Rosa, Laguna, at the end of the year, Toyota Motor Philippines has quietly celebrated a manufacturing milestone in the country.

In March, TMP marked the occasion of its 500,000th production unit. To make the historical feat more special, Toyota launched a search--"Classic Toyota Hunt"--for "the earliest locally manufactured Toyota vehicle." Obviously, units produced in 1989, when TMP started its manufacturing operation here, had an automatic advantage over the others.

True enough, the winner of the contest is a 1989 Toyota Crown owned by Anthony Cheng Liong, who was awarded a brand-new Innova by TMP for the excellent upkeep of his 23-year-old car.

"For me, my 1989 Toyota Crown is a very reliable and sturdy vehicle," Cheng Liong said. "The engine is still good and tough. As for the parts, even though the car is already more than two decades old, they are affordable and still widely available in the market."

"We are fueled by our customers' continuous patronage and their trust in the brand," TMP president Michinobu Sugata declared. "This only inspires us more to continuously provide them with excellent customer service and unmatched product quality."

^Yeah, it would be nice to see how the interior and engine was kept.

I actually had a strong inkling the winner would be a that kind of Toyota Crown since part of the criteria was the originality of the vehicle if i recall correctly. Since that wasn't widely sold, chances are it isn't too used often and run to the ground unlike all the Corolla GL SKDs we see running around, and that parts purchased for repairs would have to be OEM.

The winner looks like he can very well afford the Innova though. The Crown was probably an extra car of theirs at home. :D

Oldest assembled by TMPI...Those older Toyopets and Tamaraws were manufactured/assembled by Delta Motors of the Silverios before Toyota Japan abandoned ship in 1984.

Yup. They're technically not "Made by Toyota", even though they are Toyotas...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

I saw a white Toyopet in Toyota Alabang - nagpapa-PM in one of the maintenance bay.
All shiny - paint, chrome, lights and all. A 3rd generation Corona circa 1960s.
Yummy. Kinunan ko tuloy ng picture

Akala ko customized lang to Toyopet.
