pero me part na walang topcoat as in litaw yung metal.
tia.

Panels come with a very thin coat of paint (this is the primer or first coat) to protect it from immediate rust.
Dealers or repair shop will spray the layers of body color paint and lastly the clear coat.
You can easily tell if the shop simply applied body filler/putty or masilya, by using a soft refrigerator magnet. Place the magnet on the formerly damaged areas. The magnet must stick with a very strong bond otherwise its full of putty or body filler.
Check the inner side of the door panel. Feel the areas near the rubber gasket around the door. Is it smooth or does it feel like a fine sandpaper? Is it the same color/shade as the rest of the outer panel ? Is there a different color underneath the rubber gasket ?
Not all shops will replace it with factory freshly stamped panel (esp. if its an older and outdated model). Most of the time they will source the panel from other cars that have been parted out due to being total wreck, chop-chop, etc...
PS: Toyota Phil still stamps out Revo panels (hatch door, etc...).

The CASA will be the one to paint the panel.
In the case of our Grandia GL, nung nasabitan siya on the left side (no sliding door side), the CASA first wanted to latero + masilya but we were able to push for the whole side panel to be changed (laki nun, the part from the b-pillar all the way to the back).

Most of these supposed dealers simply outsource the bodywork and paintwork to outside shops (or third parties).
======================
^vinj, I'm impressed that Toyota dealer managed to replace the entire panel of your Grandia. Most of the workmanship in these kind of shops (places that need to a fast turnover to make a buck) do more damage than repair due to their incompetence and poor attitude.

Actually you basically remove off the entire panel (there's a seam that separates it at the driver door, roof gutter and tailgate. The paint job sucked since they did not get the pearl white correctly, i had a backjob on the window as there was a small leak when pressure wash the car and now i see a little corrosion on a part of the weld near the wheel well. I'll have it repaired by an outside job instead since we have to repaint the rear bumper too (naatrasan ng flower box yung driver
).
Still better than the originally proposed latero work on the dent though. It took prodding on the side of my Tita who had contacts with the insurance company too.

Panel replacement comes in black coating, then casa will paint it according to your body color.
Painters called it "sapyaw"
One of the best casa pintor na naexperince ko is Toyota Makati, sabi ng SA doon mga seasoned painter daw nila yon na galing pa sa old Toyota Bel-Air (Buendia) na wala na ngayon.

July 4th, 2014 01:49 PM #10Up ko lang ito. Just had a rear bumper repainted. Off parin ang shade after 3 attempts ng casa. Sabi saken they used the correct paint code naman, now I'm still unhappy about the results and wondering why can't they get the color matched perfectly. I do understand that bumpers are a little bit darker than the body, but mine is way darker than the rest of the car at certain angles.
How do I instruct the casa to get the metallic density correct?
