December 9th, 2024 02:17 PM #1Doc, if you look at the cars at those exclusive villages, most have at least 1 hybrid and almost every street has several houses with EV already.
Dami ko nakita naka BYD Sealion6, Atto 3, Tang, a few Dolphins. These are houses with several cars in the garage.
Most buy it because it is the TOTL for the model they are after.
Some buy it because they know and foresee the future in automotive landscape.
This is Toyotas problem, their dealership unfair practices.
They could easily have cornered 70-80% of the Phil automotive market but couldn't because their dealer practices has turned off a lot of customers.
Now the chinese are knocking on their door.
The chinese are gonna start clawing at Toyotas market share year by year.
Toyota would still lead in sales but their market share would be below their peak.

December 9th, 2024 02:35 PM #2good for you, sir.
i don't live in an exclusive village, so i do not know what actually goes on in there.
but i do know, that the money is probably in there.
so why do they buy it, when they already have a stable of other cars?
because it's an EV, for whatever joy of the future it promises, or because it's another toy to play with?
i know personally of four folks who purchased one because of the coding advantage.
medyo unti-unti nang dumadami ang EVs on the road, but one would not know where these cars' owners reside... maybe someone will come up with residence figures.

Not only toyota has crappy, unethical practices within their dealerships, especially if high-end models are involved. But they also strip a lot on specs of many local units (yet overseas units usually have better specs as well as rivals) while charging for more at the same time, like when the all-new fortuner and hilux came out here in 2015/16. No backup camera for totl bt? Wtf lol. Tho this was before the pandemic. Ever since they've become somewhat more generous in updating the specs (they have better HUs now, rear & 360 cameras for some) but they still charge more for their units. Another thing i've noticed is that many of their best-sellers have limited features on their a/c controls (limited zones, no hot temp & sometimes no rear defogger). They did that probably to cut some costs in production but somehow it doesn't reflect in their respective srps.

December 9th, 2024 02:44 PM #4i am reminded of some folks in the past, who favored grey market.
"these 'slightly used' cars are better built, and have more bells and whistles than local cars, and yet are priced competitively..."

December 9th, 2024 07:23 PM #5And yet most folks are buying them, why is that?
Because of that, we will always be charged more and get less because most buyers are OK w/o it.
Statements like, "OK lang, if masira yan, dagdag gastos lang sa maintenance cost".
In fairness, ganyan din sa ibang brand, take Hyundai for example.
Yung Sta. Fe Gen 4 nila (2019 and up), daming features sa US and other countries.
Features such as :
Driver assistance
- Lane departure warning
- Lane keeping - active assist
- Alert/warning - collision forward
- Warning - driver fatigue
- Driver attention detection
- Blind spot sensor
- Blind spot with active assist
- Safe Exit assist.
Emergency
- Control - crash avoidance with braking (high speed)
- Control - crash avoidance with braking (low speed)
- Collision mitigation - reversing with braking
- Control - pedestrian avoidance with braking
- Collision warning - rearward
- Cross traffic alert - rear
- Brake assist
- Brake emergency display - hazard/stoplights
Also, mas mura pa tong Hyundai Santa Fe sa country nila (US/AU) compare sa Toyota competitors nila dun.
Binansagan pa nilang Value for money tong car na eto.
Pero sa Pinas units, maski isa dyan wala.
Yung rain-sensing wiper lang ata dinala dito at yung 360 cam which was sa luxury European units and Nissan Terra pa lang inooffer nung time na yan.
Aanhin mo yang rain-sensing wiper.
Mas mahal pa yung unit dito compare sa pricing sa US/AI.
Premium pricing yung patong nila dito.

Well, influence ng t-badge nga kasi. A lot of pinoys are blinded by it. Regardless, customers are still going to be satisfied since they can have other choices also in case they want something different.

December 10th, 2024 03:25 PM #7I think its more of the knowledge of what benefits it has compared to you regular ICE car.
For Everyday city driving EV are probably the best.
No noise, easy to drive, most of the tech you need already included plus more.
i guess nasanay na mga mayayaman to have more than one car pang coding.
Some have weekend ICE cars or used for Long drives while the EV are for pure city driving.
this is true. kawawa yung mga unang bumili ng 2nd gen fort back then. Because within a year yata, TMP upgraded some features like 4 wheel disc brakes and other small features to their base model G. Two of my friends who bough the G model when released were pissed. sana daw naghintay na lang sila for better features.
Not sure if TMP did this intentionally or because of clamor from buyers. i was also looking with a friend who bought a G model unit that time the fort was introduced and an SA i talked to said a lot of buyers where surprised at the lack of features of the Fort G considering the outgoing model had climate control, 4 wheel disc brakes and such for the same base model.
