MANILA, Philippines -- In compliance with President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III's orders, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has banned the use of sirens for its vehicles escorting VIPs, a police spokesman said on Wednesday.
Chief Superintendent Leonardo Espina said PNP Director General Jesus Verzosa gave the orders today, immediately after the orders Aquino made in his inaugural speech.
At the same time, Espina said the PNP will no longer be allowing its vehicles to counterflow when escorting VIPs.
"We will strictly abide by the orders of the president especially on patrol vehicles performing security escorts and protection tasks. We will not be using sirens," Espina said in a news
He said they will be coordinating with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on the use of sirens for its patrol vehicles for anti-criminality operations.
Espina also said that the PNP will be strictly going against cops who extort money from the public.
"On anti-extortion and mulcting operations, the PNP will likewise revitalize its operations against mulcters and will immediately coordinate with other law enforcement agencies and uniformed services like the MMDA, the LTO, the LTFRB and the different municipal and city traffic enforcement groups for the full implementation of their respective anti-mulcting operations against their own erring members," Espina said.
The MMDA is the Metro Manila Development Authority while the LTFRB is the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.
The public can contact the PNP, he said, through its hotlines text 2920 and call 117 to report its men who extort money from the public.Last edited by ghosthunter; June 30th, 2010 at 07:29 PM.

Well at least there's the effort. I've yet to see a MMDA Traffic enforcer flag down a 8-plate convoy. Pahingi rin ng popcorn!

Good start for P-Noy. Basta pwede lang si P-Noy, si Binay, si Enrile (for now baka we have a new one in the next Senate baka daw si Villar), si Corona (Chief Justice pero parang ayaw din ni Aquino mag stay) at si Nograles (God forbid sana wag si GMA in the next Congress)... The rest with 8 plates and mayors, councilors and sino sino pa bawal ang WANG-WANG!

parepareho tayong mga tsikoteers na natuwa sa wangwang comment ni p-noy. Such a releif na coming from the highest post, eh asar din sa wang wang. can't help but remember more than a week ago at pasay edsa, there was this Black Suburban with plate NXI xx1 (takot pa ako ibulgar eh), he was swerving left and right at alam nyo kung paho sya sumsignal??? he opens the passenger front door (wide open) then the big goon gives you the dagger looks. syempre the normal citizen drivers can't help but just let him pass. ilang beses nya ginawa ito. such imbecile! sana yung mga ganitong abusado maalis na sa lipunan.
