yet another missed opportunity, a 2012 dodge ram 1500 with 5.7 lilter engine, 6 speed automatic transmission.
the customer states the MIL is lit and the transmission is misbehaving. it was brought to another shop where it was scanned for dtc and it came back with P0868 (automatic transmission oil pressure low. upon receipt of the truck, i did a comprlete health check and confirmed the P0868 together with driver door module and passenger door module diagnostic codes, cllimate control codes.
after the health check, i checked the transmission oil dipstick and found the atf low.
it was a matter of the shop tech or shop mechanic not checking the basics. i guess they were intimidated by the complexity of the newer vehicles or lack of diagnostic strategy.
it follows the four "C"s.
concern(or complaint)
cause
correction
confirm the fix.
a lot of shops try to repair first and diagnose later if the swag(scientific wild ass guess) did not work. by this time, the cause or evidence was already contaminated and the ab initio assessment is going to be rendered unreliable.
