it would be a waste of money to replace a belt that don't need replacing.
but, if your belt already has some minute cracks, you can use it as an excuse for replacing it, even as the mechanic says it's still ok.
then see if the noise dis-appears.
belts depend on friction, for proper function.
i see no logic in lubricating it and minimizing that friction.
