Back in my college years I had Monroes take over OEM shock duty in my at that time ten year old 1981 Buick Century. That car was a GM mid-size back then, but would turn heads here, and easily swallow myself and 6 Filipino relatives, on cloth pillow- top seats. And quiet too: You closed those doors, and it was like hitting the Mute button on the world outside.
The Monroe shocks definitely rode a bit firmer than the originals, but worked in a bit after 200-400 miles. They also sharpened up the handling in that old Buick, and even lent some road feel.
(Did I just utter "Buick" and "road feel" in the same sentence?)
