they were giving the vaccine to kids as young as 2
then they found out it's really bad
https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/documen...rmation_en.pdf
so later on, Sanofi increased the cut off age to 9
as if kids 2 to 8 are biologically different from kids 9 and aboveLast edited by uls; September 3rd, 2019 at 06:43 PM.

Sanofi already had a clue that the vaccine is bad for seronegatives (those never infected with dengue)
but instead of blood-testing each person they used a cutoff age nalang
they used age as a substitute!

why did Sanofi use age 9 as the cutoff?
because in dengue-prevalent countries, more than 50% of people age 9 and above have dengue antibodies -- meaning they were already exposed to dengue
Dengvaxia was recommended by the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) on immunisation to be used in regions with high endemicity, as defined by a prevalence of dengue antibodies of more than 50% in the targeted age group of people aged 9–45 years.
so how about those age 9 and up who have never been infected?
scientists predicted there will be a lot of hospitalizations if the vaccine was given without blood-testing
We also predicted a significant increase in the number of dengue-related admissions, over 5 years, if the vaccine is administered without previous population screening for serostatus.
it's the serostatus!
More recently, our analysis of trial data has indicated that serostatus (and not age) is statistically discriminative with regard to the relative risk (RR) of hospital admission after vaccination, and of efficacy —ie, the RR is similar across age classes but significantly different across serostatus groups.Last edited by uls; September 3rd, 2019 at 07:09 PM.

now, how many people in PH were vaccinated?
hundreds of thousands?
how many of them are seronegatives?
who knows... several thousands
so is it surprising why there are many bad dengue cases this year?

alternative to dengue vaccine?
wait for the next generation vaccine
other companies are working on it
we lived without dengvaxia
if we didnt have that mass vaccination program BAD dengue cases wouldn't be this high
the damage is doneLast edited by uls; September 3rd, 2019 at 07:31 PM.
