Hello Peeps... =)) Well, after reading all the messages in this topic... Thank you! Its a great help. Sold my car... very cheap... huhuhu... I am just about to make a reservation within this or next week. Got someone to talk to the GM of one of the Toyota branches and I hope I can get it (the unit) earlier. :-)
Im still torn between 2.7 and 3.0. I personally want 3.0 because its 4x4 and if ever, its my FIRST TIME to have a 4x4 auto. Hehehe. But! my parents wants 2.7 because its gas. Huhuhu. Dilemma: my dad owns an 83 Toyota Tamaraw. The fiera type (dont know if you guys know this car) :-) . With it, he got a bad experience with diesel engine (I guess you guys know the history of diesel engines before) and dont want it to happen again so its a big no no for my parents to get a diesel. Boo Hoo... I explained that the diesel in the 80s is way different with the diesel nowadays. He said: "Still... diesel is a diesel and you will face same problem in the long run." Well I guess he has a point there. So... I guess we are going for the 2.7 gas one.
I am choosing between 3 colors namely: Dark Grey Metallic, Greyish Brown Metallic, and Silver Metallic.
Anyway, I hope that we can come up with the final decision soon.
Again. Thanks to all! :-)

October 7th, 2005 07:52 AM #993*poringdrops: you have to inform your folks that the diesel engine of the old tamaraw is a shitty 2C which is notorious for heavy maintenance past 60T km of use, simply because it doesn't have enough metal in it . . . . during severe overheating - the engine block cracks, the cylinder head easily gets warped, etc. Users even brand it as a disposable engine - change after every 150T km of use.
Toyota learned from it's shortcomings so after the 2C, toyota introduced the 2L (2.4 li.) found in the Revo. Now that's a tough reliable engine. My cousin with his old 2L hilux ran it dry twice already (once from a radiator leak*180T km of use, the other from a water pump leak after 200T km of use), and it ran even without water until the thermostat in the water pump shut down the ignition to prevent further damage to the engine (he had a busted temp guage and never had it fixed). No cracks, no warp, engine still intact after running dry & severe overheating.
Even though the new D4Ds were just introduced late last year and have no reliability records to speak of, I'm sure they are light years more advanced and made tougher than those oldies. Basically no point of comparison - it's like heaven and hell.

October 7th, 2005 09:23 AM #994As far as the numbers are concerned... the 2.5 really is at a downside even put side by side with the innova. Clearly, we could say that the Fortuner is underpowered. However, basing it from actual driving experience relative to one's driving habit & need is a different thing. If i may quote sir mazdamazda when he test drove the innova diesel engine " ...sufficient pick-up speed but still a bit slow for my taste. " I think the key there was relating the actual performance with his personal preference & need.
I would say that the 2.5 D4D engine is adequate for me and my family. To say that it's underpowered will be solely up to the driver. But that's just me!

October 7th, 2005 09:43 AM #997Ei, JunDC and Cardo!
Wont dark gray have the same maintenance problems as black? Yes Cardo, I am OC too (You have to be if your choice of color is black - he he he). I had a black Civic and it was frustrating that the cleaning is making the paintwork shabby.
Parang makakapili ako ng kulay ano?
Who has an opinion on the practicality of the Trackmate?
