    OT...
i remember when we were young and poor-ish...
with help from a timing light, we would rotate the distributor a little, so's we can use the lower octane fuel...
nowadays, without hi tech equipment, there's nothing much we can do to them engines...

V-Power Nitro+ ang full name ng 95 RON fuel ni Shell bro. V-Power Nitro+ Racing naman for 97, and V-Power Nitro+ Diesel for premium diesel.

So V-Power or Nitro+ ok lang, parehong maiintindihan ng pump attendant yan.

Interesting experience earlier in SCTEX today. I was cruising then a CX5 overtook me. I caught up and overtook him and then went back to cruise. Then when he tried to overtake again at full throttle, I tried downshifting and went full throttle myself as soon as we were side by side. Iwan kaagad as if I were overtaking a 1.3 Vios.

Thinking it was a fluke, I let him catch up again and let him go full throttle first. I was still easily able to catch up and overtake. Then I let it happen again for a 3rd time and same result - the moment I hit 5000 rpm in 4th gear, I gain distance away from him.

The CX5 didnt seem loaded since the rear wasn't drooping. But for some reason it didn't have the straight line acceleration I was expecting.

I'm really curious to have my car Vbox'd. Either the 1ZR-FE is that good, or the CX5 is just too heavy for the 2.0 Skyactiv (though I assumed 160 hp was enough for a CUV).

Assumptions lang, maybe the CX5 gearing is more towards loading capability as it is a CUV or he's not straining his engine's RPM but merely cruising along?

so, did you really "win", or did he "make you win"?
maybe he was assessing your car's ability...
    heh heh.

I wasn't even trying. He was the one itching to overtake.

Sa araw araw ko sa highway, I know which cars are at full throttle and which aren't.

That's what I thought, but noone cruises at 180 kph. The way he accelerated from 140-180 kph was obviously full throttle.

    Then it's probably the gearing.

Could be. Just checked and found out that the 5th gear of the CX5 is long - from 6200 rpm at 4th gear at 180 kph, it drops to 4400 rpm at 5th so you're not at peak hp. Good for cruising FC, not so much for acceleration. The Altis has shorter 5th and 6th gears (6th gear is 2700 rpm at 100 kph).
