our club has already tested it at cis. 2.24 for the mx-5 and 2.26 for the 86 both were all stock. tires and the gearing of the mx-5 made a huge difference against the lowly tires of the 86. drivers are pauland dumlao and victor buensuceso of vios cup and james deakin was there also.
if you want a track car the 86/brz is still the better choice since after market parts are endless and the 86/brz responds to tuning better compared to the mx-5.

This maybe the present truth as the 86 is the old dawg here.....but OVT has been making progress. Give it time, good sir. I've seen dynos on tuned SkyActiv 6s, 3s, CX5s, Sky D & they're impressive....both on stock hardware; on light reversible mods like JBR intake & RB exhaust.... Headers are out & Turbos are being readied now.
Both are great cars to keep.
I've to admit I'm drawn more to that roadster simplicity.

nope, mx-5's never responded to tuning as well as other cars and will never have after market support as much as the 86/brz. just look at the previous mx-5's not just in the ph but around the world, yes they have a lot of after market parts but not even half as many as the 86/brz or other common sports cars.
also the guy with the mx-5 just had his tuned by staunch and the results were ridiculously disappointing ecutek still isn't available for it besides the fact that it's been out for a couple of months already, while ecutek for the 86/brz became available a couple of weeks after it was introduced in the market. just goes to show you that tuners won't prioritize launching their products for the mx-5.
don't get me wrong i'm not pro 86/brz or pro mx-5 in fact i actually sold my brz to get an mx-5, i'm merely stating facts.

I just shared what I've seen from OVT w/ EpifanSoft's MazdaEdit. They're way ahead of our very own Staunch. Can't compare & conclude apples & oranges. The NC had supercharger kits that probably never saw our shores....& eventually the ND may just see forced induction if demand flies. Mazda is coming out w/ the turbo Sky to run the CX9 soon.
Yes, the Toyobaru triplets are popular & yes, I agreed on moddability & mod availabilty. But, it's unfairly a bit too early to arrive at tunability generalizations. The SkyActiv is a totally different animal, sir.
And, nope, I'm no MX5 defender....just a fan of those 2 very different cars, sir.

There's some aftermarket that will work with the MX-5. The Unichip Q has been shown to work with SkyActiv engines, and there will, no doubt, be aftermarket suspension parts and maybe even superchargers available for the MX-5 (should not be categorically harder, both 86 and MX-5 are direct injection).
I doubt the absolute limits of tuning will be as high as the 86, but you should be able to do some pretty good things with the car.

In the end, though, the MX-5 isn't as good a track car, anyway.
Because you can't fit four extra wheels in the (non-existent) back seat and trunk.
Hell, you can't even fit a safety spare in the trunk.

I still want to see what the cars can do on the same tires. On the long track, the 86 might just be superior, but I think on the short East track at Clark, the MX-5 might still pip the 86.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

With all due respect, niky sir, it's the contrary. The said piggybacks fitted on SkyActivs have seen nothing but rough sailing. Most if not all were removed. You may ask the owners, whom I can't divulge publicly, who've had them.
MazdaEdit & OVT have done very well on these hi-comp engines.
Both engines only share injection method common, otherwise they are distinctly different.
