May 2nd, 2014 06:15 PM #853I have a 2011 Montero GLS. Just last Sunday, April 27, I was in an uphill climb about to overtake a very slow bus. My speed tailing the bus was only about 30KPH. When I tried to accelerate the transmission disengaged from "D" with no display at all in the LCD with the engine still running. I guess it shifted to N. I tried the manual shift but still no display and not shifting to any gear. When I shifted to P only then the LCD gear display was restored then shifted to D only then I can drive forward again.
For about 3 times whenever I am on full-stop and slowly accelerating I experienced the same issue and resolved with the same change shift from P to D.
Have it checked with Diamond Motors 2 days, April 30, and they immediately told me that it is a known issue which is the the Inhibitor Switch. They said that it is no longer covered by warranty so I have it replaced for Php 5K parts and 2K labor.
This issue is actually quite dangerous particularly when it first happened to me when I am about to overtake a bus uphill. This should be covered by a Recall with the parts replacement at Mitsubishi's expense.

May 4th, 2014 09:41 AM #855This is the issue I experienced with the INIHIBITOR SWITCH as the culprit.

I tried the manual shift but still no display and not shifting to any gear. When I shifted to P only then the LCD gear display was restored then shifted to D then doon lang ako naka drive forward ulit.
For about 3 times on my way home, whenever I am on full-stop or slowly accelerating I experienced the same issue and resolved it with the same change shift from P to D.

May 8th, 2014 12:34 AM #856update: the car was on its way to the garage when the lady driver transferred from front passenger to driver seat. it was driven by her daughter in-law. gear is in park and handbrake is engaged. when seated, that's when the monty went berserk. gear was still in park and handbrake is engaged. it went full throttle. there is a video of it running wildly and the driver is depressing the brake to no avail. monty still went through. i'll try to acquire the video.

May 8th, 2014 12:59 PM #857sana yung video mapakita na sa brake pedal nga nakatapak at nasa park position ang gear, kasi ang alam ko once the gear is in drive or reverse and you try to step on the gas and brake at the same time the engine will stall, at kung naka park position naman kahit anong diin mo sa accelerator hindi siya gagalaw sa pwesto.
waiting for the video...

May 8th, 2014 06:47 PM #858devil's advocate here..
so the article is leading us to believe that despite the stickshift in Park, the handbrake engaged, and the adrenalin-pumped driver stepping with all her might on the brake pedal for dear life, the monty still decided to lunge forward...
i wonder, did they exchange driver positions via the front doors, or via the hard way?
heh heh.
