Surprise surprise! Rene Almendras divulged that he had been doing all the apologizing and facing the hostile HK media all this time. Apparently Erap only entered the scene when all kinks have been ironed out and unrightfully claimed the credit.

Cabinet secretary denies going to HK with Erap
By KIMBERLY JANE TAN, GMA NewsApril 22, 2014 3:46pm
(Updated 6:15 p.m.) Cabinet Secretary Jose Rene Almendras on Tuesday denied that he went to Hong Kong with Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, who organized the trip to apologize for the 2010 Manila hostage crisis.
“No I am here in Manila and just had meetings," Almendras told GMA News Online in a text message, denying several reports that said he went to Hong Kong with Estrada and Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima.
Almendras, however, did not respond after he was asked whether he will follow Estrada or meet the families of the hostage victims.
A Palace source, however, said without elaborating that Almendras will fly to Hong Kong for a separate meeting.

MANILA - Cabinet Secretary Rene Almendras left for Hong Kong after all.
Communication Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. could not give details on the trip, however.
"Wala akong kongkretong impormasyon hinggil sa itinerary ni Secretary Almendras. Ang batid ko lang at batid din natin, siya ang inatasan ng ating Pangulo na maging point person sa bagay na ito, at ang ating nais ay makatamo tayo ng mutually satisfactory conclusion.”
Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada is in Hong Kong to formally apologize for the bungled police operations in the Manila hostage taking crisis in 2010, which left 8 Hong Kong tourists dead.
Estrada had said Almendras will be accompanying him.
On Tuesday, Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda denied the trip. Almendras himself was evasive on the matter.
Coloma said the country can only hope for closure to stem any more sanctions from Hong Kong.
“We are hopeful that the initiatives of Mayor Estrada will contribute to the national government’s efforts in achieving closure and a mutually satisfactory conclusion,” he said.
President Aquino earlier refused to apologize for the incident.Last edited by Monseratto; April 25th, 2014 at 12:03 PM.

Sikat na naman si Erap. Kung mag aapologize din lang ang Malacanang, dapat sila na lang. Nagkapogi points na naman ang mga Estrada.
