May 20th, 2012 10:45 PM #271Based from the post of 2tski3, he didn't mention any special modifications in his truck. That is why I am also wondering how he managed to go that fast. With mine, it is almost done at 175 kph. I don't know if it can go faster if I downshift but I am afraid to strain the engine since at 175 kph, the tachometer reading is almost red line already.

May 21st, 2012 10:55 AM #273I have the 4JJ1. It's an 08 model with DDI Iteq engine. It has always been that way. After the 1,000 km break in, I tried it right away and at 175 kph, it was almost done. It just didn't want to go faster anymore. Perhaps it will but the speedometer was literally crawling already and at times it will slow down or reduce speed which feels like it has its own speed limiter.
I don't know if I did the proper break in but I did bursts before even reaching 140 then back to 100 then burst to 120 and so on but I didn't go beyond 150. Something like that. I just didn't let it go beyond 3k rpm for long period of time. Most of the time I let it play in the 80 to 100 kph in its first 1,000 kms and that was also the reason why I was able to pull off that more than 1,000 kms in one full tank but I couldn't do it anymore thereafter.

May 21st, 2012 01:57 PM #274That's odd, I suppose not all engines were created equal then. Is it crawling like this one? If so, maybe just a bit more patience is required. I suppose it reached top gear at the 175km/h mark and it would crawl all the way to its top speed if you keep the accelerator floored. Maybe you'd like to try cleaning and/or replacing the air and oil filters and see if the performance improves.

May 21st, 2012 05:57 PM #275Similar to that but slower. Could it be possible that the Dmax on the video is the VGS version? I hope the video captured the tach clearly but based on what I saw, at 48 seconds at more than 190 kph, the tach reading is almost red line already.
Perhaps I just didn't push it more or maybe due to the road terrain. I only try those speeds in SCTEX since most of the time I only drive around 100 kph to 120 on National roads and around 60 to 80 in city limits. In NLEX, I am a bit more cautious. Just burst speed of 120 to 140. Next time when I go up north, I will try again.

May 21st, 2012 08:15 PM #276I was able to find a video of what I was trying to say. If you would observe, once it got to 175, it was almost crawling and it started to stop at almost a hairline above 180 then it reduced speed to 175 and I suppose the driver eased off his step on the gas and when it got to 155, the driver put pressure on the gas pedal again but this time it was almost stuck at 170 already.

May 26th, 2012 09:02 AM #277bro you can't compare the performance of your 4-year-old truck to the newer ones. dont forget that you are in the PH, the home i guess for the most dirtiest diesel fuels, especially those of Petron. engines and systems of same trucks/models are created equal, even the settings at every ECU. so as time passes by, the performance of your truck depends mostly on its health.
another info, i have a friend who owns the same model you have - 08. when we compared our engine, there is a slight difference between the 08 and the 10. i can't tell the part name but its a thing above the turbo. try comparing it with other newer models for you to see.

If in terms of performance, it could still run to 175 kph the last time I tried it and I was using Petron regular diesel. When it was new almost 4 years ago, just after the so-called break in period, that was also the maximum speed that I got and I was using Shell regular diesel. Now, I haven't tried to max out the speed with SeaOil. I will try when I get the opportunity.
I didn't know that they have engine modifications with the newer ones. I tried to look in the brochures and the specifications are still the same. There was one time when I had my truck serviced in the dealer and I asked if there are changes in the engine, the SA said it is just the same since the changes are mostly cosmetics. The real change is the all new one but he doesn't know when it will arrive on our shores. My truck is due for its PMS and I will check again in the dealer.
But good for you if you managed to make it until 210 kph.

May 27th, 2012 11:29 PM #279If there are any differences, I suppose it would have to do with the tuning of the ECU. They may have changed some of the settings to improve performance. I suggest you try Shell V-Power Diesel or Petron Turbo Diesel and see if there is any improvement in your truck's performance.

May 28th, 2012 11:58 AM #280Yah, maybe it's the tuning of the ECU that they changed.
When I go up north again, I will try putting Petron Turbo diesel and I will observe the difference. But I am very satisfied already with the performance with regular diesel. In fact, with SeaOil and Petron, I honestly don't feel any difference in performance. The only difference that I have noticed is the smell of the fumes. SeaOil's diesel is less harsher in the nose. But with Shell and Petron, I feel the performance is better with Petron.
