    Hi!

I'm quite new to the whole lpg scene.... I got a 2004 cefiro that has been converted to an lpg system. The thing is, it is a company car so maintenance has been neglected I guess. The LPG system is working fine but it consumes 4.5 km/liter of lpg unlike gas which is 7 km/l. BTW, it has an sgi kit which shifts to gas mode quite fine but there is a lag in shifting to another gear (automatic), lack of power I guess. So I called macro since they were the ones who installed the kit and they told me that they have to tune it up. But their office is quite far from where I am, and other lpg installers wont even bother checking the car since they claimed it is done by Macro so they are the only ones who could tune it up. Is this true?

Unfortunately, they are mostly correct. Each SGI-LPG kit is controlled by a computer and rarely are they compatible to other makes. So it would be worth your fuel-money to schedule a trip to MACRO to have your LPG kit serviced.

Proximity of the Auto-LPG shop is one of my reasons why I chose our Auto-LPG installer. Having them nearby makes it easier if the LPG system needs a service.

    Thanks GH!

BTW, do you any idea on how much the tune-up would usually cost?

Macro told me that they also have to check my system for leaks and if parts are needed to be replaced, So if any of you guys would be able to help me out to give me an idea on a ballpark figure on how much these would cost would really help me lot... Then I would know if they are charging me reasonably...

I dropped by Xoom last Saturday and i'm satisfied with the tune-up service they did to my kit since they utilize the 02 sensor to read the emissions and the cpu inputs tally up. No guesswork involved. Will be going back to work on the high rpm band to see if we can improve my highway consumption which isn't far off from the 10km/L+ i get during city driving.

Its also best to change oil, spark plugs and (clean/replace) your air filter prior to getting it tuned.

On a related note, I had a compression test done at Speedyfix and the compression readings came out at a healthy 175psi across all 4 cylinders. This is after running on LPG for the last three and a half years and 65,000kms (change oil every 5,000kms using Mobil 1000 mineral oil). I had a scare leading to the compression test but it turned out to be a busted radiator cap.

Around P 300 or P 350 and it should just take around 5-10 minutes. Sometimes you just have to wait for a mechanic if they're working on several other cars so you may want to drop Speedyfix/Migs a call or text to set an appointment.

Perhaps it's still because of people who are scared of the LPG horror stories and more have adjusted their budgets to the pump prices we have today unlike back in 2008 where it really increased dramatically. There are still converters around like Tartarini, Xoom, Greenfuel, etc.
