. in most modern cars today if the car is A/T you cannot start the engine unless the gear is in neutral or park postion. and you wont be able to change the gear if you are not stepping on the brakes from P to R then N to D yan ang mga safety features ng car today . sometimes kung sanay ka sa A/T then gumamit ka nang manual bigla it is very easy to loose your sense of footing . i hope human error nga lang since car defect yan pwedeng mangyari satin lahat .

fyi: in MS invecs II you can shift it into D from P without stepping on the brake as long as you are pressing the button on the shiftknob.
that's their design but it really depends on the driver, like me i always step on the break first coz i used to drive on a car with a/t features like what you posted.

That is true, but the engine will not start if the lever is in N.
There is also a reason why all new vehicles comes with a hand brake.
If the driver doesn't know the use of these safety gadgets , then he is not qualified to drive.
So don't let him drive. In western countries, during driving test, there is a demerit for improper or failure to use the hand brake when necessary.

car owners should always take the time and patience to read the owner's manual to avoid accidents due to unfamiliarity with their vehicles especially the transmission system
