Did Comcast install fiber-optic lines? I haven't seen that kind of speed from them before. Same with Cox Cable here. My subscription is no longer the top banana even though it's still as quick as before.

yup.they had fiber optic here in chicago for a while now but only in selected cities.they anticipated the coming of verizon and upped the speed pared with fiber optic lines.
plus...chicago is their main hub(i think) so they want to keep a good hold of the state.chicago was rated before to have the fastest connection from comcast bout two years ago.
