If its a wired ADSL wifi-modem-router then it should work as an AP. Just set it as a bridge mode the connect a straight LAN-to-LAN cable then you have an instant access point(SSID & creds same with what's on the sticker under the modem)

As Yatta mentioned, the simplest method is by enabling password. MAC filtering is another option but you will need to get each device's MAC address to be included.

Encrypt your SSIDs with a pre-shared key (WPA2-PSK or better, WPA3-PSK) that only you and your immediate family knows. Do not share your PSK to anyone else. If you frequently have guests over that needs WiFi, allocate a separate Guest SSID with its own PSK that you can share. When they leave, disable the SSID or change the PSK.
MAC filtering is weak as devices now have the ability to 'fake' and/or randomize their MAC addresses.
