April 23rd, 2022 12:55 PM #252metal blades don't imply anything
a few yrs back i got some free metal-bladed fans from ace hardware when i purchased some printers. the fans are all dead now, they all had cr*ppy motors

April 23rd, 2022 02:25 PM #253Kung sa bahay lang gagamitin, industrial fans are a waste of electricity IMO. Strong motors but the blade design itself doesn't "push" much air. You get the feeling na malakas dahil maingay pero sa totoo hindi naman malakas ang hangin.

How's the inverter fans compared to the regular fans, mas tahimik ba? We just occupied the room in our house that has been a "bodega" eversince and nung mag electric fan kami, sobrang ingay probably because of the position and size if the room so we want a silent fan. Ang ingay ay galing sa motor mismo and hindi sa sipol ng hangin so baka kung inverter mas tahimik ang DC motor at ang speed pala nito ay parang CVT na hehe. Rotary dial knob ang speed control. Sayang naman if I buy it for 2x the cost of a regular fan tapos maingay din pala. I don't believe the energy savings will offset the cost kasi unless maybe it lasts for 10 years.

I'm using a Panasonic in inverter fan. I don't think there's much of a difference sa tunog. But I don't think maingay yung fan

July 7th, 2024 08:40 PM #257i have both invertrer and conventional, both with plastic blade (both KDK).
in my view, pareho lang ang relative ingay. we use them to create a mild breeze only. they are noise-less at low speed. the noise at higher speed (if any) is caused by the wind and not the motor.
i use the inverter because of the stepless speed control. medyo pricey nga; double the conventional. i am a fan of speed 1/2.Last edited by dr. d; July 7th, 2024 at 10:32 PM.

If the motor itself is making a noise, here are two possible causes...
1. Mechanical - Worn bushings and/or other mechanical parts worn out/lacking in lubrication (ie. oscillation mechanism)
2. Electrical - A bad or mismatched condenser/capacitor may cause the motor's magnetic field to become uneven, and hence makes that AC hum noise
To check whether it's the motor or the blades making the most noise, just simply remove the blades and run the motor at all speeds. That will give you the baseline motor noise. It should be relatively silent and vibration-free. If not, go back to the first part of this post.
This is for a conventional AC (non-inverter) fan. Also applicable on exhaust fans and conventional A/C fan/blower motors.
