One of my WD Passports suddenly can't be recognized by my PC or my media players. There's around 1.5TB of HD movies inside.
Nothing happens when I plug it to my PC. Sometimes, it will appear in the file explorer (if it was unplugged for a few hours), then after a few seconds, it will just disappear again. Not enough time to even perform a check disk.

How can I still recover the files stored inside? I read that the hdisk used is different from the regular drives since it is USB powered, so I can't just remove the disk and put it inside my PC.

What's the model? Have you tried a different USB cable?

Sir Items to check muna and assuming you are using the samll one 2.5 " size and its already out of warranty

    1) Try replacing the cable first yung sa USB... kung yan yung micro USB ang dulo pwede dyan gamitin yung cable din na pang Android phone like HTC etc

    2) If it gets detected na, as a good practice para hindi sya create ng create ng USB profile, just plug it on the same port anytime na gagamitin mo.

    3) If ever na islolate na na hindi yan cable problem talaga, last option is to get the hard disk inside... standard na SATA or PATA drive naman ang laman nyan ingat lang sa pag pry open then you can buy a replacement HDD enclosure sa CDR king

What I know is the HDD used for USB drives are the same as laptop HDD. So you can just open up the USB HDD case and install the HDD into your PC.

Ganyan talaga sakit ng mga external portable HDD. Try mo muna checkdisk to see if it can be fix, if corrupted na talaga then run Photorec to recover your file. HTH.

I forgot the exact model name. Ang nakalagay lang sa casing is WD My Passport. 2TB capacity.

I already tried to swap the cable with my other Passport, ganun pa rin. USB 3.0 yung cable.

From what I read in the web, the WD Passport have write encryption chip plugged to the hdisk, so even if I can remove the hdisk, baka I can't retrieve the data na rin?

usb powered ba yan? or may sariling power supply.. had the same problem just a few days ago.. kaya lang maxtor naman to.. nahugot bigla yung power.. na corrupt yung hard disk.. eh backup pa naman nang mga pics from way back 2003.. 600GB yung nawala.. ayun I used photorec.. na recover naman halos lahat.. kaya lang halo halo and it created around 3000 directories.. ang dami pang ibang files.. txt files, db files, etc.. halos 2 days tumatakbo..

    try mo muna scandisk..
