Hi, is it really hard to open up a Port? My work is in Melbourne pero nandito ako ngayon sa Pinas. Pumayag naman ang amo ko na work from home ako via VPN. I have SmartBro DSL connection at home pero when I tried to connect sa VPN ng client ko sa Melbourne di ako maka log-in. Ang sabi sa akin ng Network Admin sa Melbourne baka daw na block sa ISP ko yun port 500 (the port they are using). I called SmartBro to request to open the said port, sabi sa akin di daw nila maoopen yun port na yun. They can just do that if I'm upgrade my plan to a corporate plan. Mahirap ba talaga gawin yun pag open up ng port sa ISP?

its easy to open a port, but for security reasons, smart really may not open that dahil individual subscriber ka.
what you can do (and suggest) is to get a letter of authorization from your superiors in melbourne that you need to open up this port because you need it to work. they may allow you.
or use an alternative port like port 56, which i think, is generally open.

Thanks! Actually nakaka work ako ngayon dito sa Manila Office namin. Mas convenient lang sana kung work from home talaga ako. will not bother to get that letter since this work from home thing is only for 2-3 weeks. Punta na lang ako sa Manila office namin to get connected sa VPN ng client ko. Again, thanks a lot!
