July 17th, 2012 07:49 PM #1MANILA, Philippines — Nokia Philippines has just unveiled their newest entry in the overcrowded touch-based smartphone category, the 5110 Touch.
In a product showcase attended by the who’s who in the industry as well as tech bloggers and media personnel alike, Nokia Philippines Brand Manager Niko Karppanen finally unveiled the product that, in his words, will revolutionize the way we look at smartphones.
The Nokia 5510 Touch is an Android based smartphone, capable of displaying monochromatic colors, due to its state of the art “graphical color array” technology, projected on a 2074 x 3795 pixel resolution high retina display. The 5 inch (diagonal) LED backlit multi-touch display can handle 3 simultaneous finger input allowing for more control options and deeper immersion in games.
Karppanen attributed the 5110 model from year 1998 as the inspiration of the design and form factor of the new 5110 Touch. “Consumers have always wanted us to bring back the bulky but rugged model. We couldn’t think of a better time than now to announce it,” said Karppanen.
Nokia Philippines will also bring back a wide range of Xpress-On Covers consisting of Red, Green, Blue and Yellow variants as well as 7 variants of metallic covers. The Xpress-On Covers will be released alongside the unit at around December of this year and the SRP is still to be determined.
The Nokia 5110 Touch will be competing for consumer’s attention this coming holiday season, with Apple’s ‘The New‘ iPad also set to launch later this year. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has since warned early adopters on the risk of being eager to have such devices on day one. Read more here.
