Not really idol, you have to remember the (Philippine) business associated with it is social entrepreneurial, where much of it, if not all, is free and voluntary.... Moreover, the men behind its distribution in Pinas are know international (and local) philanthropists (Rothschild and Diaz).... Also, the Brazilian inventor behind it does not exclusively claim and hold rights on it, that's why he doesn't receive any sizeable royalties from it and patents, if any.
If you have a power cost of about US$0.28 per kW-h (and going up without letting up - figure care of Meralco's PhP12.00 per kW-h), and at the same time, a meager to middle-of-the-road income earner, incidentally where most Pinoys belong to in terms of salaries and wages, you would entertain the idea of installing lots of these water bottles into your home to save electricity at least in the day-time. Vietnam, Malaysia and some of the other SE Asian countries more progressive than Philippines charge a power cost of only US$0.068 to US$0.070 per KW-h. Even a 1st world country like New Zealand charges only in recent past years NZ$0.03 per KW-h.
In our house, on the other hand, we use multiple skylights where the windows for them in the roof are tilted to the north or south, which ever looks better aesthetically ---- and the sun travels from east-to-west, hence you get the point, no direct light and heat from the sun going inside the house.... So no need for us to adopt the water bottle idea, at the current only, but who knows into the future.

August 16th, 2013 09:38 AM #9IMO, people need lighting at night. While this is helpful, it doesn't function at night, the time when children would study or parents prepare for the next day.
So I agree it kinda look backwards in a sense. And I wonder if they really ask what the people need. Lighting in the morning or at night???
