i've been using Thunderbird for a while and I've found its JUNK filter to be good at removing that type of unwanted mail. Although, it has to be "trained" at first.

if you are using a client based email system... the suggested software to use is Thunderbird. Its a free download from www.mozilla.org ... Aside from it's built-in filters, you can also "train" it to recognize and delete junkmail.

December 22nd, 2006 03:42 PM #4Like illnesses, prevention is still better than cure. Things to watch out for.
- Giving your e-mail address to websites, usually for registration purposes.
- If absolutely necessary, what you can do is use a secondary address, which will then be your catch basin for spam.
- Clicking on the "opt-out" links in spam mails. In some cases, this actually increases your chances of receiving spam. Think, "Aha, got a live one there!"
- Using those fancy autoreply/vacation/out-of-office features in some mail clients.
I'll post more when I remember them.

1. use a good spam filter (e.g. as stated above) and adjust the filter to your desired level.
2. use disposable email id's when visiting websites for registration purposes only.
