Renault is reported to have staged an emergency meeting in Paris on Wednesday with regards to the future of its Formula One team. Following news of Toyota's departure from the sport already today, it is believed the French company is considering whether to stay put as a works team, engine supplier or leave completely.



With Renault's meeting having been reported by the BBC, the news could result in the loss of a fourth car manufacturer from the sport within the space of a year.

In terms of 2010, Robert Kubica has already been signed by the diamond marque although confirmation is yet to arrive for a team-mate to the Pole, whose management is now rumoured to in frenzied contact with McLaren.

It is believed no verdict has yet been decided following the last-minute get-together of company executives and team leaders Jean-Francois Caubet and Bob Bell.

Di pa sigurado kung mag-quit sila... Everything is still up in the air. There were years in F1 were the only car manufacturer was Ferrari. Many manufacturers joined then left the sport. Renault was a works team during 70s-80s then quit to become a sucessful engine supplier.

Renault yet to decide on F1 participation

On Wednesday, Toyota announced their immediate withdrawal from Formula One, citing the "current severe economic realities" for their decision.

Hours later another team, Renault, appeared to be facing the same fate as the French carmakers held an extraordinary board meeting to discuss its future plans.

And with the recent Singapore race-fixing scandal fresh in the minds as well as the two-year suspended ban hanging over their heads, many are predicting Renault will be the next team to walk away.

However, Renault Chief Executive Carlos Ghosn has revealed that no decision was made on Wednesday, although one will be forthcoming before the year is out.

"You will have to be patient," Ghosn told Reuters.

"We will make an announcement on our participation in Formula 1 before the end of the year."

Should Renault quit Formula One, they will become the fourth major manufacturer to leave, joining Honda, BMW and Toyota
