the problem with your thread is that there was no mention of on car test, no mention of bench test of the alternator. people tend to go to extremes immediately. a common filipino trait. we, as a people like to go to extremes, e.g. "pinaka", mega star (not even michael jackson when he was alive was not considered mega star despite of his worldwide fame). the "mechanic" should have done test first before condemning the alternator. the most common parts to malfunction in an alternator are worn out brushes, worn or coated slip rings, defective voltage regulator and defective bearings or worn out belt. what happened to your alternator might only be worn out brushes or poor electrical contact between brushes and the slip rings. look for a competent auto electrician, remember, not all things in a car are mechanical. most components in today's cars are beyond comprehension of these "mechanics"
