May 21st, 2009 01:20 PM #1Hi ALL!
Anybody here like 914`s? I used to hate their looks and VW lineage, but when i got a 1976 2L in 1988 and drove it for a few yrs, well, it grew on me (looks and all). At the time i bought it, 914`s were the CHEAPEST porsche (or VW-Porsche as they were called in Europe) you could buy. Not anymore!

May 21st, 2009 04:02 PM #3"The Porsche For The Masses" or so they call it. I knew that car only from NFS Porsche Unleashed, and I think the looks are OK. I also read that it was mid-engined, and that's a plus for a relatively cheap car back then. I kinda think of it as the Toyota MR-S of the era. It looks good on aftermarket shoes. The ones that came from Porsche look cheap.

Talking about the Porsche 914... someone in the USA converted one of those into electric car that has enough power to do power burnouts.

May 24th, 2009 02:04 PM #7The 6 cylinder version of the 914, (914-6) was praised in the 1970`s for higher lateral g capabilities than the 911. At one time a factory stock 914-6 was fitted w/racing tires and it produced lateral g ratings approaching what was then the realm of racing cars. A modified 914-6 got 6th overall in the 1970(or 71) 24 Hours of Lemans and 1st in the 2L. GT category. Knowing the 914`s history when i owned a 914-4 then helped me to appreciate it even more.
