Well... kind of obvious that some sort of identification is needed. Since Senior discounts start at 60, and some 60 year olds look to be in their early 50's, you need some way to verify their age.
Anyway, many establishments will now accept any legal ID, and don't require a senior citizen's card.
The only issue is with the booklet requirement for buying medicine, but that's there to prevent abuse. No pharmacy can survive if ALL their customers get a 20% discount (effectively removing their entire markup)

What really irks me about the senior citizen discount is that the BIR still insists that we pay even MORE taxes even if we declare 100% of our finances in the Drug store. The accounting firm already argued with the BIR regional director but no, the director threatened that he will call his friends in the investigative division to harass us(including other businesspeople).
Damn, son! Where'd you find this?

Lose-lose situation when laws are written by politicians and not people with brains, eh?
Similar gripe with the school. All the hoops the CHED makes you jump through to offer courses... all the services you could maybe outsource/share with other schools that they want you to only have on-site... the caregiver export course was just taking off, and they effectively killed it by forcing schools to tool up with as much equipment as you'd need to open up a basic nursing course.
And no sharing between the two courses. At all. What a waste.Last edited by niky; July 24th, 2014 at 06:16 PM.

^That's the thing. Our drugs are already below 10% markup to compete against chain drug stores yet they insist 20% discount. to compensate for this, you raise your prices and people who aren't 60+ have to pay a premium. People complain to FDA, so they force us with price fixing. What ends up happening is that we rarely stock up on drugs that are more likely to be bought by senior citizens. But no, government wants us to sell on a loss because they are essential drugs. pfft... good job!

The writer is barking at the wrong tree and simplifying things too much.
Culture is what makes a good country not profession and other BS.

Just wait till they declare senior citizens should get a 20% discount on cars...
...and houses... and land...

The stupid thing is... the government should pay back the pharmacies for discounts that take them into negative margins... similar to how things are handled via Philhealth.
But no... as typical of the government, they want the private sector to take it up the ass and cover the costs of their own programs...

July 25th, 2014 07:19 AM #18stupidity is not cured by election.
it gets worse during time of campaign period, to win votes, politicians will kill the local business.
kaya nga bumabaha ang imported sa market natin, mas simple ang mag import kesa mag manufacture, mas kunti ng kakausapin mo at lalagyan.
and to show the world our GDP is improving despite of our dying local industry, we flood the foreign market with OFW.

July 25th, 2014 07:49 AM #19^^^ hindi na madali mag-import ngayon, sobrang dami mo ng taong kailangan daanan. As we all know the more people we go thru the more money we need to pass thru.
OT. These times are not really conducive to business.
