Sadly that is not just a Chinese thing, its an Asian culture.

Even here sa Pinas, kahit nga yun bats kinakain din dito. Di lang nga sinasabaw, here they prefer ihaw.

So basically the same, dogs, mice, insects and bats. Kadiri.
