From Abs-cbnnews.comMANILA, Philippines – Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. admitted on Tuesday that he is “very flattered” when his name is mentioned as a possible presidential contender in the 2016 elections.
Marcos said just like any other politician, he aspires for the highest position in government.
“I’m very flattered kapag sinasabing ganoon kasi ganoon ang tingin ng tao sa akin. Siguro lahat naman ng pulitiko eh iniisip kahit papano na maganda siguro kung umabot ako ng pagka-presidente. Lahat naman ng nagtatrabaho ay gusto nila maabot ang pinakamataas na posisyon doon sa kanilang propesyon. Siguro ay ganoon din ako,” he told dzMM’s “Dos Por Dos.”
However, Marcos stressed that although he is flirting with the idea of running for president, he has not made concrete plans to run in 2016.
“Masyado pang maaga para pag-usapan ‘yung 2016. Nakita naman natin sa 2007 at 2010 kung gaano kabilis ‘yung pag-ikot ng pulitika dito sa Pilipinas, ‘yung pagbabago pabigla-bigla. Hindi ka pwede magplano ng masyadong maaga. Tignan muna natin kung ano ang mangyayari sa 2013,” he said.
Marcos, a member of the Nacionalista Party (NP), said there is nothing final in the coalition between NP and the ruling Liberal Party (LP) amid reports that President Benigno Aquino III had a meeting with NP’s Senator Manny Villar.
The senator said both parties need to discuss certain matters such as conflicts that may arise in the race for local officials.
He also said coalitions in the country are merely for “convenience” and not because a group has the same ideology, like in the US.
The Marcos stigma
Marcos, being the only son of former President Ferdinand Marcos, said there was never a stigma of being a Marcos.
“Never namin naramdaman ‘yun eh. Kasi ‘yun lang naman ang mga sinabi ng mga kalaban sa pulitika. Syempre ‘yun ang sasabihin nila dahil kalaban nga natin eh. Ako iniisip ko propanda lahat ‘yan, dahil ang pangkaraniwang mamamayang Pilipino, sa palagay ko ay hindi naman ganoon ang pagtingin sa amin,” he said.
He said he believes the public has allowed his family to start with a “clean sheet” after they returned from exile in Hawaii.
He also said he does not feel that the Aquino administration has treated him unfavorably even if he is a Marcos.
“Walang personalan, trabaho lang talaga ang nangyayari,” he said.
Marcos, however, admitted that his family was saddened over the administration’s decision not to give their father a hero's burial.
