a friend of mine need help..yung toyota nila eh bigla nalang namamatay...they have it checked sa toyota casa mismo and sabi nila ECU damage daw...

how can they make sure na ito nga ang sira at di lang sila niloloko or di lang nila alam ang cause.

if indeed ECU nga sira, where can they get cheaper ECU kase sa casa 75K daw..

btw, the car is corolla gli na matic (big body)

    would appreciate your inputs..

You can check it by borrowing an ECU from a similar vehicle. I don't know about Toyotas, but for Mitsubishi 6g72 engines, removing the ECU is pretty straightforward. Just unscrew and remove all connectors.

There are surplus ECU's. I don't know how good they are.

Mitsubishi ECU's can be repaired (usually nasusunog lang ang diode). Baka ganun din ang case ng sa Toyota.

Pwede naman buksan ang ECU casing to check kung may sunog or na-disconnect na part.

    vsm712,

hmmm.... baka naman hindi sa ECU yan.

baka naman something to do with Electricals/ignitions wirings yan or something.

    ipa-check muna nila sa iba.

It's usually a big metal box. I don't think the Toyota Casa will repair it. Mga a/c compressor at power steering pumps pa lang, ayaw na katayin, ECU pa kaya? It can be repaired if you are patient enough to 'read' the flow of conductors and other components. Baka nga may napatid or nasunog lang. Madali naman makita ang sunog. The surrounding area will usually be blackened.

Sa Club Mitsu dati parang may nag-rerepair ng ECU. Unfortunately I did not pay attention as my vehicle does not have an ECU.

Just make sure na ECU nga ang sira.

well it could also be the wiring from the engine to the ECU. did the toyota casa do an ECU swap to determine if your ECU is busted? if they did, then ECU nga.. because it's possible an important sensor (e.g. crank sensor) is busted, this will *look* like a busted ECU because the engine won't run at all.

standard practice naman daw ng casa to do an ECU swap when there are weird non-mechanical problems. This rules out the ECU right away.

75k for an ECU is highway robbery. You can probably get it surplus, call Nankai in Banawe 7477827.

additional note: there was this guy on Autoindustriya who was selling a 4AGZE for 50k or so. that's A WHOLE ENGINE. and a super-charged engine at that.

so 75k for an ECU for a 4AFE is indeed, really, highway robbery.

(maybe you could convince the owner of that Corolla do have a 4AGZE transplant :D cheaper than the casa's ECU)

...actually a resistor in my ecu is already burnt out causing me idling problems. i just bought a new resistor but haven't installed it yet in the ecu. the mechanic said only the resistor have to be replaced since it did not harm the other components of the ecu.

...i'm going to have it installed this weekend and see if it works.

....if it doesn't.... i'll get a new engine, rather than paying over 50k for a new ecu unit...
