May 28th, 2003 11:35 PM #1Just bought a 2nd hand 95 Toyota Corolla XL, the body is still great, no squeak good suspension, pero two weeks later my leak na sa engine... I have it checked at the Casa, sabi nila the engine needs to be overhauled dahil umaakyat na ang oil sa carburator at a staggering cost of 65K.... Pero malakas pa naman ang hatak lalo na pag patay ang aircon.....
Do i really need to have the engine overhauled???? Sabi nung mechanic na nakausap ko papalitan lang daw ang balancer ayos na daw 4K lang ang magagastos ko.... Tapos ano tung twin side????
Please guys help me on this.... This is my first car pa naman....
The 2nd problem i have to deal with right now is the engine leak.... Parang galing sa ilalim ng carburator... Sabi nung kaibigan ko O-ring lang daw ang papalitan......

if you have a second hand car, dont bother to go to casas to check on your car. masyadong mahal sila and your engine might not need an overhaul. anyway, your mechanic could be true bout the balancer. pa service mo na lang sa trusted mechanic mo yung oto mo.
twin side?! its a performce part or should i say a perf carb. i would not go to details coz bago ka pa lang nag-ooto. enjoy ka muna sa stock.
leaks! madali lang yan. your trusted mechanic can do that like a walk in the park.

IMHO lang get a second or third opinion.
Ano yung nagle-leak sa may carb? langis o fuel? baka naman kailangan lang ng carb kit yan.
Dun lang ba sa bandang carb may leak or meron pa sa ibang part ng engine?
May consistent bluish-white ba na usok? Or kumakain ba ng langis oto mo?
kung merong constant bluish-white na usok or kumakain ng langis oto mo, then dapat na nga i-overhaul yan.

agree with art. baka minimal repairs lang yan. masyado naman overkill yung casa. imho, 8 years pa lang yung oto so i think masyado pa yatang premature ang overhaul.

sobra naman yung 65k for engine overhaul. kung leaks lang yan go to your trusted mechanic na lang.

...you can buy a much better A1 condition surplus engine.

May 29th, 2003 03:18 PM #7Thank you guys.... Talagang maasahan kayo.... First car ko pa naman ito... I was really attracted sa itsura kasi wood paneling, mag wheels, fully loaded pa at maliit na wooden ang manibela.... Beauty talaga eye catcher ika nga.8O.... kaya lang yun after two weeks may leak na konting oil......
Can I still get an accurate reading sa oil level pag nakaandar na yung makina???
One more thing is it normal for the aircon to discharge water???? kasi tuwing paparking ako may tumulo na tubig....
Please bear with me guys... am still a neophyte pagdating sa car maintenance....:DThank you guys.... Talagang maasahan kayo.... First car ko pa naman ito... Try bringing your car to another shop... from what area are you? Maybe the other peeps can suggest good/reputable shops near your place.
On the carb, upgrading it or changing it to a twinside might cause some problems... i'm not so familiar with carbs but the twin carbs may just drown your engine given its small displacement. I'd suggest you have your carb overhauled and cleaned though... sa Kamias/Kamuning maraming carb specialty shops and its not that expensive. They can also tune and adjust your carb to its proper specs there.

May 31st, 2003 10:42 PM #10Happy,
Jolam was asking about the aircon discharging water. I don't believe may kinalaman ang water pump dyan.
Jolam,
Yes, water discharge from the AC is normal, as long as it came from the evaporator.
