the last time i pulled a broken key out of the ignition switch, i improvised a haemostatic locking pliers that i filed the clamping ends to about 3/32 of an inch (the usual thickness of older keys). if you want to do this yourself, you can purchase this tool from your local medical supplies store. what you have to do is file down on the end that goes into the keyhole. once you attain the right thickness, it can go into the broken key and pull it just like pulling gray hair with very little resistance. good luck!
