The Japanese lost in the smartphone and consumer electronics war vs China and Skorea firms. Unless they can adapt and build cheaper models at the 1.5 million price range without sacrificing quality and features... which I doubt they can.

Good point. Foxconn's been aggressive in EV manufacturing - they've already got partnerships with Stellantis and are building factories in China. Their tech manufacturing expertise could make them a serious EV player. The Japanese automakers are probably defensive about protecting their tech and market position. Smart strategic move by Honda and Nissan to consolidate before someone like Foxconn disrupts their market.

Honda To Nissan: Buy Back Your Shares From Renault If You Want Merger To Happen | CarGuide

Honda isn’t keen on any merger where there could be “undesirable foreign influence.” Honda is concerned that Renault’s 35.7 percent stake in Nissan could be snapped up by a third party while merger negotiations are underway.

Yeah, exactly! Foxconn's pushing hard into the EV scene, and their manufacturing know-how could make them a real threat. Honda and Nissan definitely need to move fast to secure their positions before someone like Foxconn comes in and shifts the balance. It’s a smart play on their part, no doubt.
