Good day to all fellow Grand Livina owners! It has been several months now since my last post here. I got my Grand Livina Elite from Nissan Gallery Ortigas last July, 2009. At first, I was very excited when I finally got my unit. But late 2009, I began to get disappointed when I started to experience several problems with it.

Just to share with you, following are the issues/problems I encountered with the unit, so far (quite many for a car that is just 10 months old):

    1. Fumes from outside can be smelled inside the car even when the windows are closed and the vents set to “Re-circulate”. This was resolved by Nissan Gallery Ortigas only last month, after they found out that this is a common issue with some Grand Livinas.

    2. Strange sound on the steering wheel (lumalagutok) when steering fully to the right. Unit was brought to Nissan Mantrade (due to its proximity to my place of work) last December, and they found out that the problem was with the steering coupling and it had to be replaced. The steering coupling was replaced by Mantrade only after more than a month because, according to the SA, they had no stock of that part and it had to be ordered from Japan.

    3. Steering wheel pulsates strongly when braking at high speeds. Unit was brought to Nissan Gallery Ortigas last April for check-up and they found out that my rotor discs are unevenly surfaced. My SA said that the discs had to be “re-faced”, but they had to ask for approval from the Plant if the repair job will be covered by warranty or will be chargeable due to “wear and tear”. HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THIS PROBLEM BE ATTRIBUTED TO WEAR AND TEAR WHEN MY UNIT IS BARELY A YEAR OLD?!! Besides, if this is due to wear and tear, then it only means that the stock rotor discs on my Livina are of sub-par quality. They should be happy I didn’t insist on replacement rotor discs! To cut the long story short, the Plant finally approved for the repair job to be covered by warranty. The pulsating in the steering wheel is now gone.

    4. Vibrating sound (umaalog) from under the hood when driving on uneven/rough roads or potholes. I am not sure if the sound comes from the suspension or the steering assembly. I requested Nissan Ortigas to also check on this complaint when I brought the unit to them for the repair of the rotor discs (see #3). According to my SA, they did a road test and they did not notice any problem. But they did some bolt-tightening underneath, just to be sure. After driving the unit for a few days, it turned out that the problem was not resolved, because the vibrating sound is still there.

    5. Fuel gauge Empty Warning Light turns on even if the tank is still ¼ full. This was resolved by Nissan Ortigas by adjusting the “fuel float”

    6. Driver side door does not close smoothly and produces a vibrating sound when closed. Even when driving with the door closed, it produces an annoying vibrating sound that can be heard inside. It seems that there is space between the rubber insulation on the door and door opening, itself. I, also had this checked by Nissan Ortigas and, according to them, they did some lubrication on the door to address this but, apparently, it was not addressed because the vibrating sound is still there.

    7. Rattling sound somewhere in the tailgate when driving on rough roads. Had this checked by Nissan Ortigas and according to them, they did some bolt-tightening on the tailgate portion to address the problem. Apparently, the problem was not resolved because the rattling sound is still there.

With the above number of problems/issues (although some have been resolved) that I already experienced with my Grand Livina, and considering it has just been barely a year since I got it from Nissan Gallery Ortigas, I am beginning to wonder if the unit they gave me is indeed a new unit. I am also worried that I might encounter more problems in the near future. Add to that the hassle that I have to go through whenever I have to bring the unit to the dealer for check-up and repair service.

I hate to compare, but with my previous car -- a Toyota VIOS, I never encountered such major issues during its first 3 years. I can vividly remember what the Sales Manager told me when I got my Grand Livina last July – “Thank you for choosing Grand Livina. You have made the right choice, and I assure you will not be disappointed.” Well, obviously, she was wrong.

Your comments and suggestions are most welcome.

    Thanks.

They adjusted something in the aircon, because there is a slight opening inside. I don't know and I didn't bother to ask what part and where that is. The SA said that they found out about this issue after Ondoy, when some flooded Livinas were brought to them for service.

ok thanks. sayang i thought that you were shown by Nissan Gallery what exactly they did. I wanted to have the information sana so I can write to NMPI's so that they can instruct all their dealers to do this for their customers as not all dealers I believe know this information.

hi sir. sir lydemer had this idea of writing NMPI regarding our problems with our GL when we saw each other at nissan shaw two or three months ago. the plan was the owners to meet and finalize the group and at the same time discuss the common problems we are experiencing with our GL. kapag ok na yung group and all problems are identified, we will write a formal letter to NMPI and all members of the group will sign to have a strong position. sadly up to this date hindi pa din nag-meet ulit ang members kaya wala pang nangyayari sa group.
